  • 46's Very slow XE Build: Engine apart

Im finally getting around to putting a few of my pics up of my car.

My Car when i took it off the road:

    Removing the knackered 998

    Front end cut off

Rear subframe off (so i can fit a curly CF Boot floor)

Today i got the remainder of the O/S front wing and a panel off, along with both the doors.

    As the interior stands

Ive been buying some parts over the last couple of weeks, so i can get on with the 16v side of things

6 Point Roll cage off jiminwatford

    Watsons extended front

Also, bought some driveshafts and a gearlinkage off Aubrey_boy.

Hopefully should be able to place an order for my subfame on thursday.

Ordered my frame and bracebars from allspeed today. Should be done in around 5 weeks, so hopefully then, there will be more '16valveness' to the project

Little more progress over the last few evenings:

Top suspension arms loosely fitted to frame.

            Frame trial fitted

Front end trial fitted on frame

I also replaced the balljoints on one of the hubs and got that painted up, but have no pictures.

Hopefully will get the few bits i need at himley tomorrow. The i should be able to fit the top arms to the frame properly.

Afraid not alot of progress really, as lack of funds is holding me back at the moment.

I've rebuilt both of the mini hubs doing the balljoints on one and the balljoints and the wheel bearing on the other. After it had welded itself to the driveshaft.

Managed to pick up myself an F18 box off ebay. Looks ok, but have to wait untill its running to find out if it work. Seems ok i suppose for £60.

No not done much recently as i trying to raise funds to buy a daily driver, but hopefully this week i might be able to get my hands on an engine for the project.

I have spoken to someone about making me a custom loom for the project, and i believe hes in the process of making up a dummy loom for a test fit. i also got my new doors mounted, just need a couple of shims to get them lined up properly.

thanks for the reply jon, i look forward to progress, but not great rush at the moment.

I have made a little progress on the car however.

I cut the bulkhead out where the box needs to go. I now need to cut the hole in the box for the gear selector, then the box can be welded into place.

                          Hole cut:

                          Box trial fitted:

I hope to make a major step in progress early next week, so watch this space

I went to collect the engine for the car this evening. Dont have any pictures at the moment, but it came with an f16 (which may be for sale shortly) and all of the ancillaries

Hopefully the project should start to move along alot faster now.

I didnt get as much done as i wanted to tonight but i removed the f16 box that came with the engine and fitted my f18 box and fitted the engine mount brackets.

                              F16 Removed

                              F18 Fitted

Only thing i was unsure of was mounting the gear linkage onto the allspeed bracket. How do i go about removing the pin from the original bracket to fit it onto the allspeed one?
