  • B16A2 Hickup Project Build

Ok chaps and chapess's. Time i started a diary of my Pickup build. Bought this wee truck with one previous owner on the V5. On original 998 etc... Has been off the road and in storage since 1990. It's in pretty good shape and my plan was to restore it to original as it would have been an easy resto. I had just about finished a 1430 Aseries saloon when i bought it, but having been used to much quicker transport (2 wheels) for the past 20odd years, was very disappointed in the performance. To cut a long story short, It's now got a B16A2 in it and is about 80% complete. In saying that, I've never drove a Vtec either so it better hit the spot or I'm done with minis for good Sorry I don't have any "engine going in" type pics but i never really done the engine install. Two small kids and Multiple Sclerosis make that slightly difficult at times. The MS things not that bad to be honest but i get tired easy. It'll be nice when I've finished it.

Sure you all recognise the White Vtec in the background. Yip thats right, i got lazy with this one and got Geoff to do most of the donkey work. Thing is, I just spent a couple of years building a 1430 Aseries and boy was it disappointing. Still over 100Bhp but a total waste of money. Wanted this one on the road pronto.

As it looks right now. Engine in, Wheels on, Brakes plumbed in although I havn't servo'd it yet. Not a big fan of them but got one spare if it's too scarey. Got a small amount of welding still to do and then just put it all back together :P I'll be keeping it the original colour (Sorry Alan I'm not trying to steel your Dumfries Blue Pickup thunder here) I just cant be peached striping & painting the inside. Plan is to go OEW one day hence the engine bay was painted before the B16 went in.

This is one of my favourites. It's my 1430 and the pickup head to head in the carport (btw, i havn't got a Danny La Rue how to work the camera so ignore the dates). If engines had brains what do you think the Honda's saying

P.S. Anybody running Nos I've got a WON Settup with Maximiser i was considering firing on. Any advice on how they react would be much appreciated.

Wow, looks Ace! When you paint the rad make sure to use paint designed for radiators/intercoolers so it won't screw up its ability to transfer the heat.

the air filter arrangement is that an itg one ?

does it not affect power ? i was planning to reroute with piping with the cone filter on the end on the passenger side didnt consider the power effect loss or gain of either ?

how many people are using just an itg sock??? which is it on the website or do you guys know where i can get one ?

also considered a closed air intake system like the aipro one

similar to this but using flexi cold air ducting
                        any ideas?

Hadn't really thought about that yet Rob but surely it would be better routed to an external intake/Scoop of some sort. Preferably via the shortest route to avoid heat build up on the duct.

the itg sock would be ok if there is a scoop on the bonnet id imagine.

i think moving the filter over to the pass side then routing the cold feed to the front valance like the one pictured above would be best.

im hoping the under bonnet temp shouldnt bee to great on mine as im wrapping the exhaust and have loads of the grille cut out (still got to cut it out but im gonna chop alot out !)

i think keeping it away from the rad and manifold will help but i think its a good time to bring up the grille on the crx / del sol theres not alot of grille to allow air flow under the bonnet for cooling the rad etc so a bog open hole at the front of the car should help reduce temp

I wouldnt route it like that, I'm using a prelude intake pipe with Apexi filter.
