Default Barkston Cancelled

Hi Folks
I have just been informed that the Station commander of RAF Cranwell has stated “All non core activity at Barkston Heath has been cancelled with immediate effect”.

Apparently there is a number of reasons for this but nothing to do with us so your guess is as good as mine.

I do not know when or even if it will happen again but as soon as I hear something I will let you know.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience but rest assured Sumo and I have worked bloody hard for this weekend so we are not happy either.

Regards

Bill

My understanding was that Barkston is a relief airfield, for other ones in the area? Has something happened at one of the other ones that means Barkstons been dragged into service for the weekend?

Hopefully we'll get an explanation, that was pretty short notice. Currently on a train home so i can go racing, without any racing to go to

RAFMSA WEBSITE READS:

Hi Folks,

I was informed today (Thu 10 Apr 14) that non-operational use of RAF Barkston Heath has been put on hold for the foreseeable future as a result of the need to fly more often at weekends and a stretch in the availability of security, amongst other reasons.

Thus event 1 is cancelled and until further notice the series is on hold.

I will be contacting RAF Cranwell to see what the restrictions are to see if we can work with them to run our future events. This may take a little time so please bear with me whilst I conduct those negotiations.

I will keep everyone updated as I learn the impact of what is going on.

Regards

Darren

Bill, if this is off for the foreseeable future, what are the chances of borrowing the the gear (timing kit, marshals, you! Etc ) and setting up somewhere else?
