    Club Meet & Drag racing 30/09/17 - 01/10/17

After disappointment at santa pod this year for myself and a few others on here (due to poor organisation, and track preparation) I though it might be a good idea to try and organise our own meet at a drag strip next year.
I suggest Shakespeare County Raceway as it has always seemed well run to me, less busy and the track seems to suit cars running road tyres a little better than pod, also some would argue it is a slightly faster track due to it being slightly down hill so maybe some PBs might be possible.
They have camping facilities (although basic) so those travelling some distance will be able to camp if the want to.
I have narrowed it down to 3 weekends next year (2017) which don't seem to clash with any of the big shows and have a reasonable chance of dry weather.
I'll try and do a poll so people can vote for which weekend they prefer.
    Any other suggestions are welcome

    UPDATE:
DATE SET FOR 30TH SEPTEMBER - 1ST OCTOBER

I have spoken to Shakespeare county raceway and they are happy to host our club meet (in conjunction with turbominis) on the rwyb weekend of 30th September - 1st October. This is a public track weekend as well so there will be other cars on the track, they suggested this weekend as it is usually a little quieter especially on the Saturday. There will be camping available and we will try and organize some sort of bbq for the Saturday night, Shakespeare raceway have also said the bar will be open if there is enough of us. I'm hoping people will make the effort to get to this as it would be great to finally have a good club meet so even if you have no interest in going on the track please come along and meet everyone else, talk minis, watch some racing and hopefully have a fun weekend.
We will have an unofficial 'competition' where you can hand in your times and we will have winners for different categories. This is not restricted to 16v or turbo powered minis, all classic minis are welcome.
So put the date in your diaries, spread the word and if you are coming please add your name to this thread with a pic of your car if you want so we have an idea of how many will be there.

    UPDATE
The event has now been officially titled 'Classic Mini Rumble' and Shakespeare County Raceway have kindly produced a web banner and will be adding it to their events listing

Sounds good, but have been put off by Pod, a lot.

The last evening session was a disaster in my opinion. It was 3 1/2 hours each way (Google maps said 3 hours). The track was open for 2 1/2 hours but queued over an hour of that and only managed 3 runs, arriving home just after midnight. I realise that's why you want to change the venue.

Shakespeare County Raceway is another 25 mins (on Google maps) but add into that I'd have to use the M1 (nightmare at moment) that could be another hour on top. Not something I would want to do to be honest.

Sorry to sound negative, but trying to be honest.

I'm going to look at different track/sprint days next year instead I think. Peter said there are quite a few now for a full day at under £100. Sounds better to me than a few seconds on the strip...

I also will hopefully attend the Mk1 Action day event at Blyton. This seems much better value and is closer to me too.

If tha does owt fo nowt, olas do it fo this 'en.

It's not just the distance, it's drag racing. Too competitive for me. I just want to go for a fast drive! If it's timed then so be it. I have been on track days where I'm sure cars should be quicker than me, but as I keep up, they let me go past. Puts a smile on my face.

Drag racing is "what's your time? Well if you buy this, or that you could go quicker". I know this. It's my opinion but the fastest cars, have the most money spent on them. I just don't want to spend a fortune chasing numbers. Again, this is my opinion and these race circuits wouldn't exist if everyone felt the same.

I'm not saying I won't attend but certainly am disheartened by Pod.

I'd like this to be a relaxed club meet (I have invited the tubominis club as well) as well as some drag racing so hopefully there will be something for those who don't want to race as well
