    Car lift outside on driveway

    Hi,

Thinking of getting a 2 post car lift installed on the drive, got plenty of space to install but not sure about the local council plebs moaning about it needing come sort of planning approval.

Anyone else put a car lift outside their house?

    Cheers,
    Mike

Councils don’t like residents working on there cars as it is, some might be neat while they work but unfortunately there are too many who don’t abide by being respectful with noise and rubbish etc

      There main concern is image

Even if you get along with all your neighbours there will be one who will have a chat with them

It would look odd as well, never seen a lift on the front driveway, don’t even see many ramps on driveways/front gardens nowadays

For what it’s worth send them an email or give them a quick call but be prepared for a refusal

As an alternative idea, I’m not sure what size your driveway is or the general aesthetics of your road/houses are but what about a garage/annex/outbuilding type thing?

        House what you want then

What about those lifts that are set into the driveway? Unobtrusive when down...

The EDS UK rising car lift is the ideal solution where access to a lower parking level is required or where security is paramount.

Why not just dig out a pit? I have one in my garage. Very useful. You can put boards over it when not used and no one can object.
If tha does owt fo nowt, olas do it fo this 'en.

It will look good Graham with a porka or a mini on it, but can you imagine if someone down your road got one and parked a fiat multipla or something on it

Yeah just remember if its on your drive to put the boards back on it each night otherwise you'll find the postman sitting in it in the morning

                            I've been looking at these:
The QuickJack is a portable car lift that's perfect for your home garage or shop. This garage lift makes all your vehicle maintenance simple and convenient.

just haven't pulled the trigger to buy them yet.
