If you leave the air filter off does it still do it, the sticking plastic TB sometimes isnít solved by just cleaning it, air filters that are clamped on can distort it and prevent it from closing....

Theyíre prone to sticking, if thatís the case then the best thing you can do is upgrade to the alloy type and then you may aswell stock a 52mm one on

Sounds like temp sensor if it smells like it is over fuelling, before buying parts though Iíd check for any air leaks, I doubt a compression check is necessary.
