Default Cooling system query

Right I finally got the car started this afternoon! WAHAY!!! Big thanks to Jay at Vaux Extreme

However, my coolant readings have shot thru the roof after only running for a minute or two so am in a little doubt about the way I've plumbed it in.

Here's a quick sketch - stop laughing at the back!!

The blue pipe is the one I'm not sure about. I've got it coming out of the large plastic pipe at the back of the block and returning to my inlet manifold. This pipe gets warm but the one coming out the front of the block and to the rad isn't warm at all? Have I plumbed it in wrong and locked the system up?

Cheers - John

The heater would be plumbed into the blue pipe when I get that sorted. I also saw this picture (from AlexCrosse I think)

Looking at this one I think I've got it right but not sure.

Cheers - John

the only thing is,on a mini you use a shutter on the heatermatrix so it would be best to make on a bypass on the bypass. if you close the heater there would not be a bypass when doing it like the drawing.

OK been n started it up again tonight and let it idle for a bit. The temp sender eventually settled down to a constant 77C after spiking all over the place and all the hoses were warm. Looks like I've plumbed it in OK after all and just needed to let the stat open. Best sort out some wiring for my electric fan now.

Cheers folks

drill a small hole ~2-3mm in the stat to calm down spikes on warmup and transitions between stat closed and open obviously once on the road if the car over-cools on the motorway, block the hole back up

if you copied that diagram it will be fine. I never bothered with a switch for the heater. Found when i was running the 8v that i never used the heater unit for cooling the inside just opened the windows.
