back firing .. is normally timing .... but dont panic .. it starts .. thats the first major problem out the way ... it took me a month to get mine to rev ( built the MS wrong )

Was well chuffed when it kicked into life. There were times when I thought the day may never come.

My spark map may be out causing the backfire through TB's. Not sure where I got it from TBH.

Also tried the getting some gears while it was running to test the dodgy clutch setup and blow me it went in. Very notchy which may need looking at but in nonetheless. Wheels turning and the whole shabang! Only tried 1st n 2nd as it was up on axle stands so didn't want to drop off n shoot down the drive! LOL

John

Oh thanks for the offer of coilpack Matt. I got 2 Ford ones while I was at scrappies so should be OK. Think they are more or less the same thing.

Nice one - I can't wait to fire mine up for the first time although if I keep finding rust like I did today that'll be a long way off!

Watch when you're running it on the axle stands, the hubs hang down and the cv runs at its full extension. I did this and wore a hole through the rubber boot. The very short driveshaft makes the angle too sharp for constant running on the stands.

Ah right good info Pob. Was only for a second or two so should be OK.

Been back in the garage trying to get it running better but no joy. Richened the fuel map up a touch to try n stop it shooting flames back out the TB's but no different.

Think the mice that went in the exhaust must've had a tinker with summat as an Allen key and a bolt came out along with bits of plastic and card! Now I know they definitely weren't in the engine when I started it up! Well, I hope not....

Was getting a lot of spikes off my sensors until I wired up my electric fan to an earth switch and then they all smoothed out. Think I need to redo the earths inside the car.

have u tried balancing the throttles with a balancing gauge yet? it will not run correctly without these balanced, even if there a tiny bit off, no amount of mapping will help

Just a quickie. Still struggling to get it running right but took a quick vid of it.

It was idling ok but any throttle and it pops and farts. Getting a tiny bit of mayo in the oil cap so I think I'm going to have to do the head gasket. Checked dipstick and there was some on that too.

Not quite sure of the front end fit either

Ta ta for now....

as evolution, it will be condensation, it seems to be especially bad on vaux engines, its nothing to worry about atall. As for the revs, have you balanced the throttles yet? it will not run properly without doing so.

Also, have you set your TPS up? you checked the voltage on it when you press the throttle down? is it jumpy or smooth?

Cheers

Al

I was hoping it might be condensation Got the TB's pretty much balanced up with the 'bit of old pipe' method.

However, despite my 3 large earth straps I'm still getting spikes on some sensors in Megatune. Namely Temp sensor which seems to read more than double til the thermostat opens then a steady 77C? The TPS jumps around a bit too just sat at idle. Might have to get the geniune plug for it as I've just got 3 small connectors on it which are pushing up against each other altho they are insulated.

It could well be the spark map which is out. Not sure where this one came from

Cheers - John

PS. Yours is looking and sounding well Al. You git!

lol, cheers john.

Yer well i wouldnt worry about your spark map so much until you have a perfectly smooth TPS output, thats why its all over the shot. If you smooth out all the signals and its still like that let me no and ill help you out with a map you can base yours on. Also, if you can; get a propper balancer instead of the pipe and ear, there not deer and makes one hell of a difference.

As for spikes :S how strange! you battery charged well? and holding charge?

oooo, one more, what is your AFR like at idle?
