if i do a build, it will probably be with the older d16a6 as crx's are a little cheaper to come across.... thanks again!

I think the A-series engine/tranny complete with motor mounts, starter, alternator, manifolds and carburetor weights about 350lbs. I believe your 325 lbs were without starter and alternator. But boy they are almost the same weight!

Come to think of it, with Alu radiator, and fibre glass front, a Mini with Honda D series engine may even end up having same or better weight distribution.

I would rather not weld onto the tank, and avoid explosions or severe burns. But this is probably the way i will go, just with a Canadian Tire replacement fuel pump. El Cheapo!
CT does not sell a externel F.I pump. You don't have to weld on the tank just remove the float assembly and plum your return line on the round piece that fits in the tank, it works great for me and have the twin mini tank set up.

Got a picture of that return setup? I think I know what you're talking about, but would like to see it.

Thanks,
Dave

I'm stuffing a D16A6 into a 1979 mini van. just got everything to fit up underneath the sheet metal last nite (after converting from RHD to LHD).
have my Southwest Speed reverse hanging pedal assembly on order as well as OBX intake and exhaust manifolds. Fiberglass front end is on it's way. I've also got the MTB hinge setup from gbcarparts.com on it's way as well. We're hoping to have it done and driving by the end of August.

Also, I just purchased an External Generic Fuel pump from CT @ $115, they do exist afterall!! just need to run a fuel pressure regulator with it and voila!

charliemurfie,

Please put me on your list for pics or post them here. My 61 van and D16A1 build has been on hold for too long and I need to get back into it . A few daily driver issues to complete first. Big difference in build will be that I am using the Honda complete front suspension.

By the way, what part of the country are you in as it's not on the profile. Helps if you add that in. JS

crazykamper,

You might want to look at the last 6-7 pictures on this page to give you a bit of an insight into what I did. The project got stagnated and I hope to resume it this year. It is just too easy to get side tracked with other stuff. It's time to focus in and start up again.

I may not continue this particular web page as HTML just is too horlicksbersome to work in on a part time basis. JS

Sorry, still no pictures of my minute progress. I just took the bulb sockets out of the Mini tails and modified the stock Honda sockets to fit. A little silicone and away we go!

Alright, so I pulled the trigger and bought the Minitec MTD kit.

I should have it in a week or so.

I'm reading up on current builds and problems.

Maybe we should get a sticky for Minitec problems and suggestions?

congradulation on your purchase...

I have the same kit. Very well made, good quality. Their only problem is the service. Other then that, i' satisfied with my frame.

For the intake, i did cut mine and reweld it at an angle. Fits like a charme. Look at my build diary to get some pics. I've cut a Skunk 2.

By the way, are you in any local club ? I'm from Mainly Minis Montreal...

Have fun with the built!
