Default Getting the mini rev counter to work

A long time ago somebody pm'd me instructions of how to get the mini rev counter to work using the Vauxhall ecu.

Having deleted a load of old pm's could somebody post this up again.

I tried this, but couldn't get it to work:-

Is there an inline resistor required to alter the voltage?

Tangledown - it may have been you who pm'd me?

Thanks,

BUMP

As it's now nearly 2 years since I gave up on trying to get the rev counter to work off the ECU - is there a way of wiring in the rev counter on the standard 3 clock Mini dash without going through the Vauxhall ECU?

You need to check that your rev counter is of the RVC type so ive been told.

From what people have said on TMF, the RVI type wont work.

I hope that this helps.

The clocks are the original clocks from 1976 and stamped RVI.

When I get a few more £££'s together I'm going to send the speedo to speedy cables to get it refurbed and a one off cable made, so I'll get them to sort the rev counter out aswell.

Thanks,

Theres a guy on ebay called "thegaugeshop09" who deals (suprisingly enough) in gauges, and the restoration of them.

It might be worth dropping him a line before approaching Speedycables as it may save you a few quid.

not to steal the topic as such but with this rvc and rvi topic about the rev gauge.. does anyone know if you can take a feed from the ecu on a motronic 1.5 from a cavilier/astra..? does it have a pin on the ecu for rev gauge facilities at all??

Thanks,
RVI is for Induction loop setup... Ie Points based.
RVC is current setup and works with ECU outputs etc...

RVI to RVC guage conversion is not as straightforward as it seems... entails the replacement of the internals and is not cheap... Mind you, cheaper than £110 for a new Smiths one...

I got a mint condition Smiths 7000 RPM one from that dude on Ebay.

It cost me about 40 odd quid if i remember correctly.
