View Full Version : how much?

How much am I likely to spend, doing a vtec conversion. I'm probably going to use the b16a engine, possibly with throttle bodies. the shell i.m using is very good and only needs a few bits of filler in a few places.

Does anyone know of any good money saving tips while doing the conversion?

I'll be getting the watsons kit...do I want to get just the subframe and find the other bits at a later date, from other sources or will this just work out more expensive and hassle too?

How Much have people spent on their conv. to date and completed?

Where and when is the next show that you guys are heading to?

ive spent over £2000 already on the motor and subframe will need to get engine-management and all the other bits to go with it ,and a new set of wheels as mini wheels wont fit the metro hubs that come with the watsons kit .all in all you wont see much change out of £4000

Wow 5.5 secs. Should be able to give my mate a run for his money in his £28k Honda S2000.

Talking about Vauxhalls, i'm currently driving an N reg astra sport 1.8 16v. and does 0-60 in 8.5, bringing a smile to my face, the vtec'd mini will be insaine!!! Can't wait to turn the key for the first time, even tho i know its a long way off

"How much am I likely to spend" - sh** loads !! I spent £250 on the car, then £1300 on a B18 engine, £900 on subframe, £400 on throttle bodies, £150 on an inlet manifold, still got tons to buy too - £700ish for the DTA which you need if you go down the throttle body route, wheels, tyres, brakes, and much more I'm sure !!!!

What throtle bodies are you using that cost £400? That seems very cheap.

i paid 70 quid for my GSXR throttle bodies .. there is no reason for them to cost that much as there is nothing to them !

Wow, Thats cheaper again. Who says these conversions aren't cheap!!!

I'm Starting a V tec conversion and originally wanted throttle bodies and looked in demon tweeks and the Alpha engine management system costs £1500.00 plus the dreaded. :( So i decided i would try and use the standard ECU and injection system from the honda. But if i can get some for £70 then i will probably use them. How much work is involved in using the GSXR throttle bodies, and what about inlet manifolds and what controls the throttle bodies? Any help, information or advice would be very appreciated. Thanks.

thats the tricky bit ... more money you have to spend quicker things can get done , but if you spend less it normally means you have to spend time making it fit.

There is no reason GSXR throttle bodies will not work , but i have not seen it done on a honda yet (other cars yes) .. but you will have to make up your own inlet manifold and maybe change spacings of the TB's . its not hard but all takes time.

Budget wise, non of this is cheap, you'll seriously need to look at the wrong side of between £5K to £10K to build one, there are a few of us that have archived this for less.

Unfortunately, the Mini magazines make out they are a quick and easy conversion to do, which their not, My complete ground up & painted rolling shell still took nearly 3 months of professional work to archive.

I’ve given up counting the build cost (£12K + so far) then you’ll still have to try and insure it.

I'm using Jenvey throttle bodies - got them as part of a few bits and pieces I bought - got a bit of discount on everything for paying cash so I'm can't say 'exactly' what they cost !!!
