well ive been meaning to post my build for ages now and never got round to it ( about 3 years now lol ) well here are a few build pics and how it stands at the mo, the arnt many from the early part of my build as my old comp crashed and lost over a years worth of build pics.

well heres the back end as i was trying to extend the zeemax arches as the wouldnt cover my wheels plus deseam.

rear arches starting to take shape.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/LGIM0058-1.jpg

front end deseamed, door handle removed and dtm mirror fitted.

drivers door smoothed and new cutout of new door catch.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/LGIM0063.jpg

bonnet with aero catchs flushed in, had to mount em from the top as fibre glass bonnet has been thickened.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/LGIM0094.jpg

aero catchs open just incase some of you dont know what they look like.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/LGIM0096.jpg

and the catch i broke!! oops! just after id got it smooth and nice :(
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/LGIM0100.jpg

trial fitment of my new grill, i think its legal, guess ill find out at mot time!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/LGIM0103.jpg

my new wheels, shame they should be matt so these have to go back, only took 3 months to get these due to toyo not havin any 225/40/14 in stock!! and now im waiting for team dynamics to make a new set of 1.2's so i can send these back and have the tyres swapped over.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/LGIM0106.jpg

there a little wide too
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/LGIM0104.jpg

new arche extended to cover new wheels
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/LGIM0119.jpg
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/LGIM0120.jpg

trial fitment of new wheels on the rear before i turreted and lowered the suspension, must ahve made a mistake somewhere as the rears didnt need extending, but im not moaning cause there perfect for the wheels.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/LGIM0121.jpg

drivers arche extended to match the other side, makin a one off arche is easy, makin one to match is a real pain in the ass!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/LGIM0131.jpg

got the suspension set up and managed to get it outside to get some pics.

Some work/hours has gone into your mini

Quite like the look of the bonnet and the 'evil eyes' :D

Not sure on the front spolier, why does it look like it 'sticks' out so much from the front of the mini? or is it just the photos  :?

Yeah we need more pictures of everything :D :D

delsolbrit

it does stick out loads but thats cause its actually two bumper! fitted another one one the front when i was gona fit a set of golf head lights and needed the depth but scrapped that idea in the end, but in doin so i was able to cut the inside out and leave loads of room so that when i have the spare money i can turbo the vtec and wont have to do any body mods apart from where the inter cooler will go and when its in person it doesnt look as bad as it does in the pics.

hopefully it will be finished soon and ill be able to show it off at a few shows!!

Could you explain what's happening with the roll down window and the mirror? Are those LED's in the mirror and if so did you do them and how or already in it. Was the window changed in shape to accommodate it? JS

i would say that there is a steelplate welded to the door so that the window isnt toched and goes up behind the plate.

the mirrors come with the led in them, i dont know wher you can get them seperate though.

delsolbrit
19-07-2009, 12:18 PM
yea it is a steal plate welded to the door frame and the side indicators did come with the dtm mirrors and yes they are leds.

havent really done much last few weeks due to working away and then doin a 12 day week :( and this week and weekend have been taken up sprayin my mates split screen.

well here some of the weekends work ( i fix the big green dirty one in the middle lol )
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/LGIM0158.jpg
over a million £'s of cars and thats not countin the db9 or the x6, the range rover club wanted to watch our range rover sport drive off the back of the chinook.

nice pic of me look very rough and old after sprayin the campervan, i look like i should be havin my 40th instead of my 30th in a few days lol
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/LGIM0159.jpg

got my new wheels back and this time there the right colour :D:D so trail fitted em to see how low the car would sit and think i need to raise the front slightly, front splitter now touches the floor when i open the front end  and i covered everything up apart from my doors when i sprayed the campervan so they got a little bit of over spray on em, not a bad contrast really lol
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/LGIM0162.jpg

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/LGIM0160.jpg
dont think ill keep em this colour, looks a little to gay to me:D

speaking obout colour does anyone know a desent place i can get satin paint and satin lacqer from? would need 2k as thats what the primer is.

changed my mind about fitting a clubman front end and ive ripped the old one off and bought a new round nose front instead and its starting to come together, fronts bonded and mounted just need to fix the brackets inside the wings and put some top mounts on, then comes the great job of building my front arches AGAIN!!

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/LGIM0011.jpg

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/LGIM0012.jpg

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/LGIM0017.jpg

was a little worried about clearence of my manifold when i started this as ive got a dc stainless fitted and they stick out a little bit more but as you can see ive got at least 3mm clearence.:rolleyes:

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/LGIM0018.jpg

and these are my new indicators i had to make due to the fact i cant find the original lens that come with the wing mirrors, 10mm ultra bright leds.

Personally, I think it looks much better with the roundnose! Interesting, but good decision!

delsolbrit
11-10-2009, 08:33 PM
thats why i changed it, only fit the clubman front cause at the time i didnt want to fit an extended roundnose but now ive fitted it i cant really tell its extended anyway and after ive made my arches only a few people (prob of here) will be able to tell.

delsolbrit
18-10-2009, 06:58 PM
well the fronts all fitted now just need to find some way of locking the front of the bonnet that wont show on the outside and ive started my new arches and ones starting to take shape, all i gota do now is make the other one match!!!

as much as i liked it too in person there was something just not quite right about it, maybe its just i still wanted to keep a little bit of the classic in her.

How did you get the kit, did you ask zeemax or did you creat it urself.

delsolbrit
21-01-2010, 07:32 PM
yes mate, second christmas and new year in a row! sucks but it my job so cant complain that much really and it WAS a standard clubman kit when i bought it but as you can see it didnt stay standard for long, wanted it to look different, so cut and smothed rear valance, extended from bumper and modified side vents, extended side skirts to fit new honda track and just extended the arches so they fit over the wheels i wanted to fit. simply really lol ill take a few extra photos of the new front arches bein built so you get the idea if you like.

I would also be very interested in how you are doing your door handles and locks, any photo's and information would be really handy (Ex REME Bod!)

Just had another look through from the start. I really do like some of your body mods very nicely done. I think the round front (in my opinion) will look much better. Is it an extended or standard length front?

What thoughts have you got for your rear lights?
What colour LED’s have you fitted to your mirrors, they look red in the photo they need to be orange for the MOT.

its an extended one from AB's just trimmed back a little ( i have a fw mm's between my from bumper and manifold! )

the rear lights at the mo are gona be hella led ring lights, indicator outers with stop/tail inners and reflextive outers with fog inners, dont really bothered about a reversing light inside the car but might undersling one.

the indicators in the wing mirrors are 10mm leds that are gona be mounted to a pcb inside the mirror itself, they are orange and bloody bright so might have to tint them just a little to go with the satin black finish im plannin :)

yea there the ones im goin for but mine wont be as visible from the outside unless there lit really, or if you look closely throught the tinted rear window, probably gona draw a lot of unwanted attention from the fuzz but hopefully they'll be more intrested in the cars inself.

there next on my list after the front arches have been built.

Karl, thanks for the info. i will certainly be keeping an eye on this. But...I think i read recently that there is an MOT requirement for doors to be able to be opened from the outside! I may have this wrong, but i'm sure i read this recently.

Could someone with more knowledge than me shine some light on this, please?

had a read into this and the doors have to be able to be opened from the inside and outside with the fitted mechanism, so if your handles broke its a MOT fail but as i dont have any opening mechanism on the outside on the passenger door its technicley not a fail but it is down to how the inspector interprecates he manual.

i will double check when i get home unless someone one here knows the answer?

wind the window down, and remove the winder handle

then the door can be opened from the outside by reaching through the window and opening the inside catch

not that ive ever put a car through mot without handles ;)

now i changed my mind again as some of you will have worked out, new front arches have been tacked on gettin ready to fit them proper wen i remove the front end, had to remove the old ones as decided on not havin any seperate a-panel and so cut my metal ones off and made some the fit to the front wing, so new arches fitted and next job is to remove front end re-enforce the arches and a-panel (and fit mountin brackets) then remove the temp fibreglass you can see fitted at the mo.

start of new fibreglass a-panels
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/LGIM0025.jpg

new arches semi fitted and also fitted second set of aero catchs to bonnet
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/19022010008.jpg

need to extend the front bumper a little, looks messy doesnt it lol

by the way does anyone want a tub for a triumph spitfire, my mates gettin rid of this on as he cant repair it, floors like swiss cheese, but if someone needs one for spares just ask

got some work done after a nice drunk weekend, started fitment of my new rag top roof, its a little shorter than a normal mini mpi one but it does live nicely around my rollcage.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/139.jpg
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/143.jpg

just need to do a little more trimmin around the back to get it fully fitted but it'll take me longer to remove all the nuts than to trim 1mm off the back corner!! :(
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/145.jpg

front end back fitted to see how good my arch work was and its not too bad but needs a little work but the basics shape is there now so shouldnt be too hard and my home made tash is coming along just need to make sure its all straight and symmetrical :( the fun bit!!
grill is just propped up here and mounts a little higher normally.

been a while but finally got round to updating this.

well i decided to put the mini on a spit to finish of the underbelly so stripped the car completly, built a spit and got it turned over on thursday (ramdom day off givin by work) and then turned up for work on the friday to be told "your posted in 90 days!!!

timing couldnt have been better but it has done one thing, i must have spent a good 500hr on the mini in the last three months so i have a week an half and then i move and just put her back on her wheels today, with only a few minor set backs

1-need to make a small adjustment to my lenthened gear change rod as it touchs but only need a few mm so only a little bend.

2-heard a loud crack while puttung my intake manifold back on only find a rather annoying crack in it now, but not a complete loss as told wife skunk2 one is cheaper than honda so should have a new black skunk2 intake soon :)

3-managed to sheer a bold on the front of my brake servo unit but already got a new one on its way and didnt pay £105 for it (minisport)

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/24062010075.jpg

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/24062010076.jpg

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/01072010085-1.jpg

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/01072010084.jpg

finished the floor off in por15 and undersealed it all, modded the rear subframe to make room for the deffuser but forgot to take any pics of the finished underbody :( but need to get it on the ramps again to fit the exhaust so will take some then. the start of the rear deffuser, this is only the template i made the actually one is in fibreglass and currrently need smoothing and the lip finishing off but no time, so not priority.

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/24082010114.jpg

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/24082010115.jpg

back right side up and spent a long time finishing off the body work and got the whole thing in primer

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/30082010134.jpg

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/30082010133.jpg

engine got a little tidy next so took it apart (bolt on bits only) cleaned it up and painted it chevy orange and black, just need to smooth the rocker down again and repaint but that can wait for now. manifold got wrapped in black exhaust wrap but ran out at that point so need to order more to finish it off and do the rest of the exhaust.

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/31082010139.jpg

new position were my gear shift comes through the floor, lots closer to my rear(almost) mounted seats.

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/31082010141.jpg

mid spray job, car was ment to go satin but 4ltr 2k and 1ltr matting agent didnt work (20% is ment to give satin) so flatted it all back while waiting for some more matting agent to turn up. found some ramdom red stuff mid flatting down, turned out it was three of my fingers id managed to flat down!!! sounds wussy but two hours later i couldnt keep my hand in the sink long enought to wash any plates at all

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/05092010154.jpg

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/05092010153.jpg

added the extra 1ltr of matting agent to my last 3ltrs (so now 25% plus what ever it was before) expecting satin/matt now and ended up with satin/gloss so not sure what went wrong but as it was also sprayed in my "purpose built spray booth" i got a few minor dust spots in the paint which need flatting back and polishing out so they will turn out gloss(ish) anyway so just gona flat the car smooth and polish it all back and see what finish i get, i just hope it doesnt just look like a bad black spray job that doesnt shine!:(

now those bad bits

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/05092010155.jpg

one nice crack :D i havent removed it since but im guessin there is something on the gasket as was tightened the other end when this went.

and a little help on this bit please, there used to be a valve of some sort on the pipe running throught the intake manifold but it fell apart a while back and i just put a straight pipe on it, do i need this valve thing and if so what is it????

rubber pipe running under the fuel rail

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/30082010136.jpg

long pipe going through the manifold

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r215/delsolbrit/30082010135.jpg

i would try google as like to work my own problems out if possible (save pestering you guy) but dont know what it is or called so dont really have a clue where to start looking.

well the cars back on its wheels now but works keeps gettin in the way of doing mini work so no pics but will hopefully have some soon of the finished paint as need it finishing so i can fit the windows and move it.

by the way anyone on here in the norfork area? round kings lynn? moving to a quite place called marham and if anyone knows the place no smirks as i asked to move there :D:D:D

Am I right in saying that you have fitted hinges to the top of your boot lid, do you have any photo's of your hinges that you have made. I'm trying to get my boot to open upwards but I'm lust short of getting it to open fully.

dont think i have any pics of my hinges but i can take some and show ya but its was just down to trial and error till it miss everything and opened wide enough.

I take it you mean problem with fitting a turbo with a mk 1 grill? If so im scrapping that idea as no room as ive shortened my 90mm extended front to about 50mm extention so gona fit a rotex charger under the left wing like most people are looking into but that wont be for a few years due to the price or everything needed.

And just to update people ive been flattin an polishing today and the black comes up lovely but only managed one C piller and rear side window in two hours as using 1500, 3000 then t-cut to get that perfect smooth paint, looks like im gona be flattin an polishin a lot over the next week!

i see what you mean now, i just made up some plates and rivited em under the mustache trim and then rivit the mk1 grill straight on but then it depends on if you want it removable or not.

havent decided about the licence plate yet, id like to put it inthe rear window with the lights but not sure about legalities!:confused: so may just end up putting it on the boot lid, square one mounted with light bolts.

and the wheels are 14"x7 team dynamics 1.2's with 225/40/14 fitted.

£225 for those few pieces!!!!! just need to get some ducting up the left side throught the side bulk head and it misses my bonnet by about 1mm so loads of room!

started quick release wiring for removable front end but need some more bit to finish, tided all my behind dash wiring up, well sort off, i found a few plug i dont have a clue what they came off as everything i have is connect and i dont remember disconnecting them first time so ill just turn everthing on and see wht doesnt work i think

got some nice braided fuel hose fitted that runs under center console but no pics, but will get some later today if i remember.

modded my heater so it draws outside cold air from passenger side now instead of drivers as pipework wont fit anymore.

well i try to keep this up to date more often if i remember to take pics that is as words dont mean much unless ya know what your on about!!
