Hi everyone, i've been visiting here for quite some time now, reading build diary's and learning how it's done.
Well, I have finally got myself a mini shell to start my own project on. 8)
I am going to put a K-Series ( hopefully 1.8 ) into a shorty.
Here's how it looked yesterday morning...

When going for the 1.8 VVC with 12" wheels and the mini subframe am I looking for the PG1 gearbox or the R65?

I would go R65 as the ratios will be better.

Thanks, i've just found Gazwad's (thanks Gazwad) sticky in the Rover discussion forum and I think R65 would be best.
BTW Gazwad, I saw your mini at Himley the other week, looking good

A friend of mine is building a bike engined, RWD shorty.
He decided to come round and help me do some cutting on mine. We have cut it in two and removed the mid section, we have not done the welding yet but we are planning on getting that started in the next few weeks. I have some wiring and storage building to do in the garage first.
Here's a few pics...

wow. You even have the doors for midgets ;)
This will be crazy. Not sure on the engine you have brought looks alittle iffy :?
Looks like a 143 engine from an MGF :?
Guinness

You're kidding me? How do I tell the difference?
Its not a late 160 engine.
143 mems 2 inlet manifold
48mm plastic throttle bodie
mems 3 electrics
MGF dip stick
143 exhaust manifold
With the MGF dipstick i would say it came from a mgf but not sure on the mems 3 electrics with the early inlet manifold. Looks like the engine has been made up from diffrent year parts etc.
Will still be plenty in a mini and stupidly plenty in a short mini  .

So we think it's not a 160? I'm not impressed, I know it will still shift but I was told it was a 160 from an MGTF, had been rebuilt with all new parts. If he's lied I might have to pay a visit.
Post the ecu number up an i can find out by that for you. It could still be a 160 base engine with older bits added on. Like they proberbly sold the bigger tb to get more money etc.

He also gave me this...

said he'd replaced it with...
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e51/LaceySPL/Image011-1.jpg
The ecu in your hand is a mems 1.9 or 2 ecu which is from a car older than 2001.
1996 - 2001 = mems 1.9 or 2. All engines where 143 spec
2001 - present = mems 3 which can be either a 143 0r 160 engine
If it was a mems 3 ecu you can tell by
160 ecu's end 160.. 143 mems 3 ecu's end with 100.
Dont want to get to involved with this, best if you take it up with the guys you brought the engine off.

Ok, thank's for your help matt, much appreciated.
I suppose it's part my fault for not gathering that info first, I would probably still have bought it if i'd have known the truth, I mean the 143 is plenty but I don't like being lied to. :x
