hi there, im the new chap, i currently own a rover mini cooper 1.3, which top ends at 105 mph, not comparable to alternative engines but i thought it was impressive

i have a future project car planned and it will have an alternative engine but i am unsure of what just yet.

i was leaning to the side of a vtec but havent decided fully yet.

Welcome to the club ! Good lcuk without ever you decide to build - naturally I'd recommend a vtec - it looks great on the garage floor for years !!!!!

thanks, i was leaning towards the side of a vtec as i presume they are more reliable since its built by the japs?

the only problem with vtecs is the shear cost of them far more expensive than vauxhalls

how much are they?

whats the performance like compared to the vxl?

Since when was 160hp (okay 170hp if its JDM...) similar to 180hp, which I was led to beleive is quite common when changing to carbs on XE? 10-20hp is a lot (in my books...). Not to forget the additional low down torque the XE produces comapred to VTEC lumps. Heh rich coming from me who wants an R1 bike powered Mini....

Erm.... why do I get the feeling I'm begining to sound like Maz...

We re-hash stuff cos sometimes you neglect to point out the good points of the vauxhall engines :D Don't get me wrong, VTEC is my second option, but that's cos I like high revving engines. Also the low down torque on XE will make for a better road car. Which forum member wanted to ditch vtec and go K as he was fed up of the need to rev the titties off the VTEC lump?

It's simple, horses for courses - and we need to keep saying time and time again as new people keep popping up. Can't have you VTEC lads always bad mouthing the big brute of an XE :D

Another note, 5-10hp can easily be felt, perhaps not so much in more powerful cars, but imagine 5-10hp increas in a standard 1.3 Mini? You notice it alrite :D Guess thats a totally different thing though.

Anyhow interesting info about actual power at wheels there - never really looked into how much power is lost getting to the wheels in each conversion :D Guess I need to use the search button a bit more

Bloody hell... Stereo now..

Why do we keep re-hashing the same stuff over and over again  :P Excellent - someone takling sense!

Ring Ring.. Hello Mazz, my Japanese nodding dog nods faster than your Luton nodding dog, as yours has got the MK2 plastic fur..….It’s a well-known fact that the Mk 2 plastic fur was inherently slower because of static in some fabric covered seats in a Mini...

Now, if you had plastic seats AND the mk4 fur, you’ve got problems, because - A.S-E.V.E.R.Y.O.N.E-K.N.O.W.S,- they made them in Taiwan, and as I said to my mate down the pub, - and he knows his onions - that means one thing.....Crap.....

Unless it was the MK4.5 Welsh version with the built in gouwzinator spring and 0.1mm longer ginger fur that is... Now, with the Welsh version, it’s a totally different story ......But mind you….and that's got me thinking now,…....... I suppose its all a load of old theoretical boll*cks really….

Cos I haven’t actually started building mine yet…........Click......hello? .....hello? BUZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.... It's a good job you haven’t got the Mk3 version then? hahaha.... hello? - Was it something I said?? ......I'M ONLY TRYING TO BE HELPFUL! :(

Kin-ell!

That bad huh?..... Think I'll go and watch the telly from now on...
