View Full Version : Power & Acceleration Values
Hello
I am from karachi,Pakistan. I plan to get a mini by mid next year and do a conversion, most probably a 1600 cc suzuki, toyota or perhaps a VTEC. Since there have been no such onversions in Pakistan, there aint much help around :( . I need to, for a start, know what are the power values in bhp if i select a VTEC, and what is the probable 0-100 km/hr time, for a stock VTEC with weber carbs. Of course it wouldnt stay stock for long  .
PLease advice, and any information on the best tire size for performance would be of further help.
Can we fit an airconditioner in a round nose with an extended front? It is real hot down here 40 C.
If you fit a 1.6 with Weber Carbs you will be losing a lot of the power that the VTEC gains, so you will probably be looking at 110 - 120 bhp, which will probably do sub 7 second 0-100 km/h runs....
Air conditioning could probably be fitted, but it may be tricky
then what should i do to not lose the power, it is difficult getting the injection going down here.
can any one help me with the air conditioner issue.

why is getting the injection working a problem down there ? i guess you will be looking for a scraped car with all the wiring ?
Matt
more or less a scrapped car situation, plus there is just one person in Karachi, yes, one, in karachi who can take care of all the sensors and injection computer/controls. i would love to do it myself, but it aint my feild at all.
if i go to honda, they will slaughter me!
and of course, we get relatively decent engines out of scrapped cars, but VTEC is difficult to find.
what is the stock bhp for a VTEC with injection mounted on a mini?
what accounts for the power loss, i dont understand why should there be a power loss in the first place.
i may also have an option of going for a suzuki gti engine.
depends both on availability, and what feed back i get from a few guys here who have fitted gti engines in their old suzukis, and ofcourse, the information i get from this board will have heavy weightage.

ok , do you like to learn ? if you do you can make your own ECU : http://www.bgsoflex.com/megasquirt.html
if you dont mind doing a bit of reading it is completly possible to make a ECU , i have !
Matt
thanx mattg, great information on that site...will study and then come back at you.

no problems , well worth getting on this mailing list : http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/megasquirt/

hi.
there is a problem, i have found out that the VTEC engines available to you people are 160 bhp stock, and 180 bhp for a 1800 cc. the engine available here is of a civic sedan , 115 bhp or so. the parts are slightly expensive.
a suzuki GTi gives the same bhp, and lots of cheap parts are easily available.
i will try my best to get an engine in the range of 150 bhp or so, but if not, then i think i will have to go for a suzuki.
plushow much can i add to the bhp by spark management and cold air intake stuff? do the 2 spoke and 4 spoke plugs really help to enhance performance.

Apologies if I seem to be stating the obvious here in this thread, but I would have thought your easiest route would be to import an already converted car from the UK, as Mini's can’t be that thick on the ground where you are, if at all, surely?
Geoff Watson has a 100% finished & working road legal car currently available for £7000 It has a standard interior and an interesting looking roll cage fitted (a definite must have option on a 16v conversion) and it could easily be shipped worldwide.
Geoff can install the air conditioning components, as he has hundreds of AC pumps lying around his workshop – My own Vtec powered car is about to have AC fitted, as it will eventually live in Japan where it can get rather warm too.
Most Japanese spec Minis I have seen are fitted with AC, you can obtain the relevant under dash parts from a specialist Japanese car dismantlers, try and look up Japandy in the Honda section on www.ebay.com he ships unusual car parts worldwide
This would be a far easier route to take than trying to source parts for a self-build using components that have never been commercially available where you are.

u r right colin.ab, the easiest route would be to imported a pre-prepared mini. but that kills the purpose, i am planning to do a conversion in Pakistan. it will take time, effort and may not end up as one of the best conversions, but it has to be done here...owning a mini is not the only issue.
Besides, the import duty system here is very awkward, and duties vary from 110%-200%, which would definitely make the price absolutely un affordable for me. i believe it would be 110% in this case, which would take the price to 14000 odd.
Thanks for your views, and more are always welcome.

Can you get Mini's in Pakistan? I thought you could get Morris Minors easier, as I didn’t think the Mini was ever exported to Pakistan.
There is a way to ship in a crashed Mini from Japan, this method is to import it as a scrap car, In this way the shell of the car is cut in to 3 sections i.e. Roof, and Two floor sections, the car is cut across the passenger compartment left to right. All the other components are stripped and carefully packed and shipped separately. Once there the ‘Scrap’ car arrives it is simply re assembled again. Thus avoiding import duty of a complete car.
There is an Indian guy in Japan – Cant remember his name - who exports 100's of damaged sports cars to India each year this way, I have seen him on Japanese TV as he is also a famous saloon car racer, and they made a documentary on how he made his millions from shipping crashed cars to India in this way.
Cant help thinking they must look like this Indian guy in the recent Peugeot 206 advertisment.

There are quite a few morris minors here, and a fewer number of minis, round nose, vans. i dont know how did they get here. they are not common, but they exist.
the idea of this scrapped car re export is uite interesting. might come in ahndy if i dont manage to get a mini or a conversion here. will check with some one in the cargo section at the airport/seaport.
thanks agian.
