Any one else in the middle of making anything thats NOT car related ?!! I decided ages to make some storage for all my records / cd's etc and decided the dimensions of some lego bricks could be used (scaled up of course!) so here's my first attempt - these ones hold about 25 cd's - also gonna make some new speakers so I can just pile everything up and add as many things as I need !!!

sky plus rules!

steve

Yeah it does! :D :D

One cool cool cool feature though would be to have the ability to log on to a website whilst I am away from home, and tell my box to record a programme.

That would be way cooler!

Chad no wonder you've been slacking off regarding the VTEC conversion!!!

Sitting on the PC (Im so guilty of that) AND watching way too much TV thanks to Sky+ :D (also guilty...)

But I totally agree, the ability to tell your plus box what to do remotely would rock my socks!

it is possible to control timers on things like the central heating, dishwasher and stuff remotely. you leave the computer connected to the internet, and connect to the computer remotely and using some specal hardware and stuff, control the appliances in your home. i'm not entirely sure what hardware/software you would need, but i could find out! unfortueately, i believe you can only control basic functions (on/off) but it would be cool never the less!

Most common stuff for it is HomeSeer which uses X10 protocol

you should be able to do it quite easily i would have thought ? as you only have to mimick what the sky controll does using infa red ? PDA's can allready do that

Matt

You can buy something that looks like a 6 way extension lead, and each socket can be operated by the computer. Couldn't tell you where from though try RS Components.

my other interest not entirely apart from minis is building speakers, i'd show you some but i dont know how, i have never really messed much with car systems, mainly domestic and caberet stuff, never really thought more than a car stereo with good speakers was required.

After a hard days work, I’m always likely be found pottering around in the garden, doing a bit of weeding here and there with my new toys.

Just going in to the garden dear, I may be gone for some time!

dont speak to me about building work, my house has been a tip for the past 6 months, due to a builder doing a runner, i still, after a million phone calls and visits, have not been able to secure a builder to come and finish the job, i have to go to my dads for a crap or shower, and it gets bloody cold without heating, i'm gonna work out how to fit the boiler myself.

I'm with you there Sean - most of my woodwork abilites came from making speakers - mostly for DJ / Band use !! :)

you probably havn't heard of them, but i was in a partnership with a firm called CG Audio, we used to develop and produce speaker cabs for caberets and dj's / dance teachers and power amps etc, our aim was small and very powerfull, i was the technical side.
my business partner snuffed it, now i mess around with crappy machines that make car exhausts, at least i have time to mess with manky old cars.

I started off desingning them myself using some calcs in the Fane books, but then got a mate to design 'em who now designs for TurboSound :)

i used equations from the audio engineering journal, then used various softwares, eventually concocting my own rules of thumb particularly with assisted bass cabs, i have had dealings with turbosound, some of the first cabs were nothing special, but some of the current ones are very good.
class t amps are my current mess thing, fully digital, very small very efficient and as good as the best class ab's, unlike popular class d's often found in car amps, although d's are great for bass esp from a car battery.

I've never had the pleasure of playing with a class T amp ! :(
The wife didn't want me filling the house with speakers when we first moved in together so I had to get rid ( of the speakers that is :) )

:D Congratulations mate!

As much as I've whinged about kids in the past. My son is the best thing in the world that ever happened to me. You may well have a few panic attacks later on (I know I did), but when that little one arrives, it puts everything into perspective - ie. how unimportant work actually is

Good luck!
