a-series question

my knackered old 998cc is having problems....
it keeps cutting out for no reason and it doesnt appear to be the leads or coil or anything like that, could be the starter solenoid but any suggestions would be much appreciated!
anyone had the same problem?
seriously considering just doing a 16v now and worrying about the money later!

mine had the same problem the other day. it ran out of fuel :oops: and when i topped it up, it ran for about 5 mins and just stopped. i've not been able to get it going since.

Have had a prob on the misses mini - whenever you take your foot off the gas, ie at lights etc, it cut out - found a bit split in the vacuum advance pipe between the dizzy and carb - might be worth checking that :)

test the fuel supply by removing the fuel inlet to the carb and turning over, dont get it on the exhaust, if there isnt a good supply take out the dipstick and sniff it!. if it stinks of petty the pumps knackered, the other thing is check the piston in the carby is free to move and the needle and jet isnt cacked up, another fault i've had is corroded battery terminals this can cause this.
