:D Not had time to do a build diarie so here's some pic. Mine uses a std length front end and home made frame which is good because you can start from scratch. Exhaust inlet manifold and alternator are all std Honda, the suspension is mini and I even used the mini rad which has proved to be fine even during the summer and yes I've trashed it within an inch of it's life!! and it works a treat.

Got to ask   , is there any additional bracing between the bottom of the towers, where you have chopped out the original metal ? What stops the bottom of the towers were the suspension is from flexing at the back?

I always like hear people thought process

Like the styling of the mini 8)

Darren the bulkhead is the back of the frame. If it is bolted securly to it, it will never flex. I dont have a back on my frame and dont see what the point of one is?[/quote]

I have to agree matt, I have began to modify the back of my frame in this way, and when secured to the floor with solid mounts, I would be supprised if a frame of this design would have any flex. Not enough to cause any amount of geometry change that would be noticeable atleast

thats a top job mate, have you got any pics of your removable front, or the back of the engine in the frame?

I quite like the frame, wonder why more people do not use tubular metal, thought it is stronger.

Great Build!;)

Hello "off roader", I try to build a subframe.
What are you use for the pipe diameter?
I love your job ;)

Do you know where I could get the dimensions / measurements to build a frame?

Look for MiniMike website at Tripod .com, or P.M. the Guy. His good! He has a frame with dimension for you to follow.;)

It's a Diametre of the tube you use for your build.
Thanks Mini Fab, I go to see the Minimike website ;)

who dragged this old thread up ..but ...

i would not worry so much about the top part of the subframe towers flexing towards each other , more the bottom arm mounts...

there is nothing really stopping the bottom part of the frame flexing in and out ?

I use 1-1/4" diameter tube of 2.3mm thickness. tig welded and gussets on all corners and mandrell bended.

i built my frame without a support bar at the bottom of the towers because i wanted to fit it after the exhaust was on to check clearances. i took a few test drives without a bar and the torque steer was noticable compared to when i fitted a support which sured things up.
