Hi Everyone,

I'm thinking about buying either a Snooper or a Road Angel.

I just wondered if anyone of you has got either and how good are they, which one is the better one?

Thanks Paul C

What's the legalities of these at the moment?
Is it a case of you are allowed to have them, but not use them? Or are they banned completely? Or has some legal bod found a loophole?

There are no legalities, they are legal to buy and use.

M. They used to be illegal didn't they, or do these work 'differently'?

the ones that were illegal either directly detected or blocked radar signals or whatever. IIRC

These ones use a map and GPS, they dont "detect" cameras, they just know where they are! there no more illegal than marking the position of every camera on a map and lookign at it occationaly!

i believe most of tehse also offer information on accident blackspots, which is v handy.

if i could afford one, id have one!

Ahh, I remember those coming out - I saw some program where a load of Sunday drivers were slating the guy that developed it. He was very cool about it and put some excellent points across. I didn't realise it was still going though.

I guess they don't pick up the mobile camera's though - they're the ones that always catch me out!

Have you seen the snooper ads above the urinals in motorway service stations.

Jason Plato pushing how its better to get somewhere safer rather than faster, so buy a radar detector, to stop you getting caught speeding

But cameras are only positioned in dangerous places on the road  The detectors are there to indicate when there is a hazardous road condition. Surely the police wouldn't position a camera just to pick up speeders, I thought it was about increasing road safety

All of the above. It does also detect mobile cameras, average speed ones are also catered for, other than that all I know is that it works and it works very well indeed. :D :D

The R has an extra radar and laser detector which mounts to your front screen.

Mine has saved my licence 3 times, the Evo 8 that was chasing me lost his as we were on the M1 @ 132 at the time my detector went off, he blasted past and they had him 2k down the road.

For info:

In the Daily Mail (dated 1/12/04) there was an article about the proposed change in the points system for speeding.

There was also a small note about speed detectors, may be of interest to you with detectors or people thinking about getting one.

Oh so the govournment and law get all the cool toys to tell HOW fast we are going, but we can't fight back in any way, shape or form? I hate that sort of crap!

I pay road tax to drive the roads, not bumping and bounce over the potholes, poorly placed and designed speed bumps (mountains in a mini!), nor have to run the gauntlet of speed traps... if police spent as much time and money on preventing REAL crimes instead of handing out speeding tickets for minor violations, imagine how much nicer the UK would be. Roads could potentially be less frustrating too (well hmmm not if we all do 100mph+). Yes a police presence must be made on roads. but I see more cops on the roads sitting doing nowt, than I see driving about in towns.

It's a farce the extent that the govournment and law are going to to slow drivers down - it only adds to the agro of driving.... and we pay them for it.... lovely eh?

As far as I'm concerned (and will probably lose my lisence evnetually) I'll use any toys I wish, and speed where I see fit (ie motorways!).

Rant over and out :D

It was £349.00 to buy and then you have to subscribe which is either £4.95 a month or £99.99 for 3 years.

Check out the web site i posted in a previous post to confirm prices. It compares all types and i found it to be the cheapest place to get it from. Halfords want around £500 for the Neo S6R :!:

I did buy a snooper 815is a few years back....was handy...but decided to sell it as i wasnt using it enough...i.e. traveling the same route everyday....knew where the camears/police hideouts were!

On ebay, S6R can be bought from that guy for £249.99 if your willing to wait for it on one of his other auctions....bid in the last 5 seconds ;o)

i just got a road angel out of my work and its great. gives you well more than enough warning of fixed cameras if its on its highest setting. I got mine (classic) for £150 instead of £350/£300 with a years subscription :D
