View Full Version : More wiring info needed!!!!
my engine is nearly in, but i'm not sure about the wiring!!! i took the wire loom from my merto so i jave everything.
my metro was a H-reg GTi with a 1.8 conversion. has anyone got and diagrams or details for wiring in an SPi engine???? which wires match where and all???
any info please?????

Are you using the ECU that came with the 1.8 engine (presumably it was running ok to start with ?) ?
Rich
yeah i'm still using the same ECU, its the 1.4 GTi ECU. it worked spot on when it was in my metty.

Are the 1.8's SPI then ?!
i'm not aware of them making a car with a 1.8 SPi in them...mine was just a 1.8 engine with all the H-reg GTi SPi bits and bobs plastered on it, using a 1.6 skoda fabia injector and FSE. top end isn't as good as a MPi but 0-60 is better because of the torque, and i suppose a top speed of around 140mph is ok(when it was in my metty!).

Ah-haaa !! I take it nothing got labelled as it came off then   ?!!
Most of the wiring is fairly straight forward - I'll see if I can get hold of a scan of the haynes if you've not already got it - when we took MarcE30's engine out of the metro (his is the SPI) - we worked out what everything was and labelled it all up !! :)

the clubby is 1971-2, so it should be easily identified to the metty loom. i can find out what all the wires are for the ECU off the EMERALD website, its just a case of matching the wires up.

Although I dont know the answers to all of these - someone else might be able to help with certain aspects:
How much of the metro electrics are you trying to get into the mini - just the engine side of things (ECU), or all the clocks, wiper controls, lights, indicator stalks etc etc ?
If its just the ECU side of things, then aside from wiring the various sensors correctly, surely its just a matter of power to the ECU - presumably a premanent live and a switched live at the bare minimum - as I said before though - I'll try and get hold of the haynes :) !

yeah only outputs you should have from an "engine" loom are ignition one, ignition two, constant live, lots of earths and thefuel pump and inertia switch feeds. obviously a few wires for the clocks etc wouldnt go amis but that should see you running. oh an the wire or the alte rnator warning light, jsut make su re its wi red upwith a diode as shown in the haynes.
excuse any excess spaces, spilt IRN-BRU on my ke y board : (
