My dad who also restores Mini's (And has won over 30 trophy's with his Mk2) is extremely impressed with the quality and the precision of your panel matching and committment to restoring this car to the exact original shape. He also thinks the previous owner should be ashamed!
Keep up the good work, the photos are absolutely brilliant :D

looks very nice but as much welding as you do you would be much happier with a tank of gas for your welder, makes clean up much nicer and easier than flux

hi
i know but i weld with wire special without no gas ,because in France the gas (argon ) is very expenvise, i have the bottle but is empty.
Just use Co2... tbh from what i've used, the difference is minimal. It's the people that can't weld that usually complain about using it  .
Lovely work by the way! Keep it up! :D

First off I wish to commend you on the bodywork welding skills in this project. I have been following it for a while but never really paid total attention to the door detail till now. I see you have converted the MK3 doors to a MKI style exterior hinge system. Good job. Now come the questions.
I basically will be attempting the reverse of what you did and need some guidance. I hope to do two things which I have been told are silly and will be very difficult but you give me inspiration for this attempt. I want to put in a different set of internal hinges on the MKI door that will allow it to swing out in a similar fashion to the oem style hinge. Away from the car rather than into the car body as the MK3 style does. The second thing is roll up windows.
So here come the questions. Some only curious others for advice. Did you have to square off the MKI A panels to work with the square corner of the door? Why did you do this?
http://i76.servimg.com/u/f76/10/06/99/32/dsc04541.jpg
Did you change the door lock mechanism in some way?
Now to the windows. I am wondering if I could use the exterior of my door and just weld in the inner doorsill hardware for all the moldings to fit. I can build an interior door panel from some flat metal stock or use an inner door panel from any other car and make it fit. I don't have access to another MK3 interior door shell here.
I think I would have to build extensions to the area front and rear where the window travels up and down. That shouldn't be too difficult. Door handles shouldn't be difficult as I plan to weld in a different kind anyway. Perhaps even change the way the door locks to the B pillar with a more modern system that is more secure.
Any comments or advice you might give would be great. If you don't wish to do it in the build thread just contact me via the email link below. JS

hi
strudel ,i use nails to lock the hole hinges because in mk1 door there are no holes.
you want to convert mk1 doors to mk3 , i think is more difficult than my conversion mk3 to mk1.
the lock i use mk3.
soon i restart the job on the doors to convert to mk1 window.

Hi, what type of rear disc brake setup is that? I am really trying to convert my rear drums to discs and don't want to spend a fortune on the KAD rear brake kit. Thanks
Hi SUNNY
I see you have the SAE frame on your Estate - if you have the rear spacers the rear disc conv on my build dairy would probably be best :D
http://www.16vminiclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3631&page=3
Only think you'd need to do is keep the Mini rear hub and redrill the discs otherwise I thing it should all fit ok

Thanks for the reply, I do not have rear SAE spacers. My wheels were custom made so they have a deep dish and don't require a spacer. If I redrill the Clio disc brakes for the mini pcd, would that work? Also where can I get the caliper mounting plates you have?
I got my plates off Ebay - they were for a Metro rear disc conversion. They are just laser cut alloy plate, your best bet is to take the rear hub and backplate off and make a template from cardboard or thin plywood and when you're happy make a pair or get a machine shop to knock a pair up. yeah re drilling clio disc is fine just make sure the centre hole fits snuggly on the mini hub and the stud holes are drilled perfectly so disc is located perfectly central

Thank you Oz, I will make up a cardboard template and go from there. I wonder if acura integra rear discs will also work?? Then it would be easier to source the parts in U.S. I know Wilwood sells some universal type brackets that you can use with their calipers and they have a huge selection of calipers.

Top paint job, love the grey and black.
i never knew you could clear coat over 2k, i thought it had to be base coat. I might put a clear over my white to give it a bit more shine, next year when the outside painting weather returns (jealous of your heated and insulated spray booth). Did you have to flat the grey back before clear coating it?
Keep up the awesome work, one of the best builds on here.

Just had a look at your build - amazing work with a shell that most would have given up on years ago. You must like welding!! I've been waiting to see a build with detail on this conversion. Grey used to be a popular colour on modified cars in the UK in the 1980's - mainly grey primer though - maybe they should have shot a few coats of clear on top. Your paint job is superb. I reckon there are some long straight roads in northern France to open that VTEC up, having spent some time there. Keep up the great work.

- serial number of your K-Pro :05343
- KManager version (not 'the latest'):1.3.9.0
- the calibration (as an attachment)
- a datalog of a problem (as an attachment)
- what sort of vehicle you have :a mini austin with a k20A2
- what sort of ECU you are using :PRA
- anything about the car which has been modified from stock which may affect the ECU : stock engine with full stainless exhaust pipe et cold air intake, no cat.
- a specific description of the problem :
engine start with no problem, after few minutes , a fault code come P0131 02 sensor low voltage .
i check with datalog and i saw the range for 02 normaly up to 0.9 down to 0,1v when is good but the mine never up to 0,2V.
i think sensor is wrong ;i decided to change , i bought a new sensor but isn't genuine honda parts.
is a WALKER oxygene sensor number part: 250-24473
This is a replacement sensor .
i make a good custom wiring ( double checked)
i restart the engine and put datalog
the sensor up to 1,02V and down to 0,2V and after up 0,3V And down to 0,2v never up to 0,9v .
and after few calibrtion, now the value stay at 1,02V.
And i have a fault code p0132 02 sensor high voltage.
can you help me please?
did need to change the sensor again (but for a genuine part)
