ok im posting this for a mate, so if i dont reply quickly, its cause im relaying messaged. he has said:
well ive setup and installed apache and php4 and installed mysql and got it running now im installing phpbb2 and when it ask for the database name i havent got a clue as to get it it might be simple or I might need to create one
can anyone help him out please :)
Apache/PHP4/MySQL is installed on his own personal server :]

I have practically no experience with this - Matt is probably the best to ask. But I do recall that if you search through the phpbb files, there is an mdb file that you use as your database - this is from the deepest darkest recesses of memory, so may not be correct, and I was setting it up on an MS platform so may not even apply.

you will need to create a database in mysql first , lookup the 'create database' command on http://www.mysql.com/

I work on "Real" computers mate, stuff that run Unix and Oracle :wink:
