Howdy, what have you chaps done about stoping the engine rocking? was contemplating useing the origional lower mount, but its huge! could re-make the bracket, but jsut wana gather a few ideas first, as iv been stood stareing at the lump for a good half hour and nothings jumped out at me..

cheers,
denis.

u used a metro donor didnt you? .. i used a rover 400 and the lower mount would need a foot deep bulkhead box

thinking il use the lower mount somehow, and a bulkhead mount "ultimate" style too, just to be safe.

ive used all the conventional metro mounts, the bottom back one just needs a bulk head plate making, and the engine is rock solid

A pic of mine. Much the same really.
It actually bolts up where the original Mini subframe mounts bolted, so that may be a problem if you are using a Mini based frame.

sorted :) knocked up a little somehting out a threaded bar and an old ultimate steady :) so its ajustable, and considering a tie rod is of a similar size, it shoudl be up to the job.. hopefully!

Cheers,
denis.

Given the size of the factory jobs, you might need something a little bigger. Then again it might just be overkill on Rovers part.

the size of the recent factory ones you meen? yeah thre huge, but so are the mounts on all modern cars.. i meen think how worn an old "dog-bone" engine mount gets after 10k miles, but modern cars can go for 100+ on there origional mounts!

ach weel see, if it snaps then i know iv gota think of somehing beter!

I know that feeling - all my mounts have that theory behind them lately !!!!! :)

had bad exsperiances with a mount bolted to the floor try the alloy sump with the mount on the back like the mgf one it will then bolt on the subframe with a small bracket its so much stronger 8)

i know its an unwelcome honda ( i'd rather have a rover), but the original honda mount was welded to the floor of my car, but with torque and vibration broke loose, wrecking the engine mounts, i fabricated a special mount which was similar to the orig, but had 2 plates sandwhiching the bulkhead, as welding to the bulkhead tends to cause a stress point and easily breaks, the bulkhead flexes when i boot it, but its been ok for a few months now.

When you heat steel Ie; weld, the heat attracts the carbons in the steel creating an area that becomes brittle, or so I am reliably informed! Hence cracks around welds in stressed areas!

Little nugget of pointless information there!

Modern engine mounts are designed to hang the engine allowing it to freely move within the engine bay, as this reduces noise and vibration transfer into the passenger compartment. Using these mounts when installing into a mini may mean unwanted movement due to the restricted amount of room. From my experience I would recommend the land rover mounts (as previously discussed on the forum) as they give minimal amount of movement, last along time, less noise transfer then mini mounts and only cost a few quid each.
