My current engine is the short set of one engine which had bent a valve and the head of another which i accidentally blew up :S

I've set the engine to the correct position BTDC as detailed in haynes, so i assume it's ready to fire, but in the process of changing the head i rotated the cams to enable me to remove the head bolt. What position should the cams now be in? I don't want to screw everything up when i try and fire up the engine for the first time!

Cheers in advance guys :)

I don't know what lies are in the haynes manual, but according to autodata-

The crankshaft pulley should have 2 teeth that are marked, which go either side of the timing mark on the end of the engine block.

The camshaft pulleys, are both marked inlet + exhaust on the front of them. Line them up, so that the writing is the correct way up (side of pulley with exhaust written on points to wards rear of engine on both pulleys)., and the in + exhaust marks line up in the centre of the engine.
You should be able to put a straight edge across all 4 four timing marks on the camshaft pulleys.

PS. If you've had the camshaft pulleys off, then the dowel on each camshaft, goes in the dowel location next to the appropriate writing on the pulley (ie exhaust cam dowel goes in loaction nearest where exhaust is written on the pulley)

If you need a picture, I'll scan the page for you and email it.

Hmm... i have put the cam wheels back on the dowels facing the right way - eg exhaust markings to exhaust side etc - is it as simple as that?

wel the cams should be set on the correct dowels, with the arrows pointing at each other when the crank is in the apropriate position.. (cant remember off hand what it is) as long as all this lines up u should be fine :)

should be described in detail in the "refitting the cambelt" part of whatever haynes you have.
