Top work minime.
But....what you'll find is that it just wont be powerful enough.
My A series had about 70hp and I though I'd be happy enough with 100bhp. Which I was..................for about a month.
Although now that you've built your own frame you'll be able to put any small block Vaux in at a later date.
I've just finished the c16se so if you need any info send me a pm.
Keep up the good work (but lose the wheels trims)

Cheers 4 that fella. I was thinkin the power thing myself, but a mate had this engine kickin about out his nova SRi £70 engine, box and loom. Like U say could drop a 1.6 in.. What BHP is the 1.6 se and is it the large block when you step up to 1.8? Thanks.

Here's my power curve.
The old 1.8 engines were the big block, but there is a new 16V small block engine.

That really was a rotten shell, if you'd have known how bad it was would you have attempted to fix it or scrapped it and found another shell?
Always been a bit dubious on roof swaps, have to be mm perfect otherwise there'll be leaks round the windows and doors.
The other reason I don't like roof swaps is that I just cant be bothered by all that filling and rubbing down. You must have the patience of a Saint!!

Looking good! I assume you are going to fit the rear subframe to the car and then fit up the radius arms, etc? I find that's the easiest way to do it. Also the bottom spring on the brakes is on wrong - it should be behind the shoes like the top one.

Thats one nice build mate, had a roof chop on my 1275GT last year by a professional mini body shop, looked mint, only had slight leak around front window but to the untrained eye you would never know, pls its better than filler lol

That is a nice looking build.
The way we where advised by mates in the body trade to replaced the roof on my mates rally nova (it had had a little unplanned detour ) was to cut the old one off just below the gutter, do the same to the donor and weld it on there. Once we ground back the welds and a small skim of filler, you'd never have known. Saved chaopping into teh pillars and potentailly weakening them.
I do like a roof chop though, always fancied doing one oneday

10-12-2009, 08:44 PM
Was gonna cut it near top like you said but the c pillar was a bit blistered too. i stagered the joints for more strength as in i cut the outer skin then the inner about 4 inch lower, then drilled and plug welded down the aperture seam, then seam welded round the horizontal join. ground flat and filled. took a lot of measurin and prob about 4 times filling til i was happy. made up with it now though

Alright fella.
Im doing the C16SE converstion at the moment. Ive got the cable clutch and managed to retain the standard mini pedal. Allspeed used to do a linkage unit which sits on top of the bulkhead (like a hydraulic master cylinder type thing) With that in place, you simply connect the Vauxhall cable to it.
You could always give Rob Hall a called to see if he has any left. I bought mine for about £50 nicker if i remember correctly from someone off this forum, its ingeniously simple.
When I first did my vauxhall conversion I used the Allspeed bulkhead clutch mechanism.
But it doesn't give enough adjustment and there is always pressure on the release bearing and so the release bearing packed in within 2 years.
I have now coverted to an internal hydraulic mechanism.
I have the Allspeed bracket sitting in my garage, but I cant understand why Rob would sell such an item if there is a fundamental design flaw.
