Just added new gearbox oil, but one question arises..
since the engine is more upright than in its original swift installation, filling to the level plug actually takes less oil..
so, the question is.. should the gearbox be topped up to the level plug, (just over 2 litres) or, should the reccomended 2.5 litres be added ?

Hi,
I think it will be good idea to fill it to 2.5 litre of oil.
Unlike my oil sump, we are using same casing.
Angle wise, you are driving up hill, may be 5 degrees from the original.
I will recommend to fill with Automatic transmission fluid for rest.
I had little cranchy gearbox but I heard this trick from Teamswift boys and it works.

Cheers Atchi,
Its a PITA to use the standard level / filler plug anyway, it is very close to the subframe tower..
later we will weld a new one at the right level into the pressed steel cover on the end of the gearbox, just can't be ar***d at the moment :-)
progress is slow, but we are getting there..

Hi Atchi, could you tell us a bit more about the automatic transmision oil trick? Do you mix with normal trans oil?

Hi,
Yes you go half and half.
I informed my mechanic to do it 2 years ago and it works so well.
Before, I changed to so call modern gearbox oil. It was very bad and cranchy. I thought I did right thing by changing oil.
It changes gears with nice solid click.

Hi,
It was 1/2 recommended grade oil and Automatic transmission fluid.
