Was it on this forum that I read a write up someone had done that their dad had reverse engineered the VVS I think it was.
It was something shrouded in mystery anyway. :lol:

So many forums, so little memory :roll:

Anyone got even the slightest clue what Im on about?

Nope, unless you mean VSS - I've heard of that ! Or do you mean VVS as in another type of variable valve engine ? (ie, Ford, Mitsubishi, Toyoya (is theirs VVTI?), etc?)

It was someone who'd got their dad to whack up an OBD1 and an OBD0 to a sillyscope and had mapped their outputs.

Anyway, Im sort of working on a VSS eliminator device, the theory at least. Will try to test it on someone's CRX as mine isnt on the road.

Sounds like an interesting project - sure a few people on here would be interest, and definately more people in future snice there's more and more of us e'juts sutffing vtecs into minis and getting the wrong info about ecu's / dizzy's / clocks etc etc ! :)

Its sort of handy as you'd be able to remove the VSS from the gearbox and try and fit a cable driven one for your mechanical speedo. This would fake an arbitary speed to the ECU so that VTEC would engage, but it would never hit a speed limit for the Jap Import donor's.
A possible side effect would be VTEC in reverse :lol:

Anyway, it's theory and I may very well be barking up the wrong tree as Im going by info that is as best crap and I dont have a sillyscope cos it broke :(

I should have replied earlier, but wasn't sure which bit the VSS was, and didn't want to embarrass myself.

Anyway, somebody on here replaced the vss with a speedo cable that went to the back of the speedo. Before actually going into the speedo, it connected to a device that generated the required number of pulses for the ECU (I guess a bit like the earlier engines did)

I remember reading it in either the Honda or the General forum - couldn't tell you who it was, but if I remember I will let you know.
