it's a sitcom about a space ship. basically, as the story goes, one of the guys on board (the lowest of all the ranks) smuggles a cat on board. when he is caught, he is put into stasis (a bit like cryogenic freezing). then everyone on board is killed by a fatal gas leak. the ships computer forgets to bring lister out of stasis until one day (3 million years later) he brings him out. in which time, the cat had evolved into an inteligent lifeform (sort of) and listers superior is resurected in the form of a hologram. and they have lots of interesting and rediculeous adventures.

if ever you get the chance to see it (there are 8 series of it made between the late 80s and late 90s) then watch it! it even comes neck-and-neck with Monty Python in terms of comedy!!
