Hey!
Another dutchman on your 16v forum. Keep up the good work here!
My name is Jasper and I live in Best, Netherlands. Nearby Eindhoven.
I'm making a schedule of building my 16v mini motorswap.
My question is: Can a 16v suz 13B fit in a mini standard roundnose? I see that some forumguys doing that. I see it fits. But i do not want to cut away the part of my minibody. Is that cold the bulkhead in English?
I mean the place where you RHdrive place the clutchcilinder (original mini)
I searched on this forum but can not find a proper answer.. can you help me?
Thanks!

no mods required if you use mk1 inlet manifold, maybe you have to trim the inner wings a bit

Hi,
I have cut away mine due to R1 carbs fitment.
If you see everyone else's you will see it will fit nicely.
I got bit carried away with mine and that might be the reaon why, it is taking so long time to finish..... also, change of jobs, 2 babies, 3 house moves.
Like Marcus said, you can fit in round fron without bulkhead mod but you will need to cut away inner wing.
If you look at Smurfy's build, you will see it well what you need to do.

ok, Thanks. Here in the Netherlands is it much easier to find the MKII parts. MKI is too old and in very bad condition.

hallo jasper,
mk2 will fit too. tilt it just a little forward for a little more space at the back. that way you have more space on your steeringrack to.

We mounted the MK2 engine dead centre, and had to reshape the right side inner wing to clear the cam belt cover. It would have fitted in with the cover removed, but we preferred to do it that way. The same inner wing is usually cut where the alternator is remounted.
I believe some people fit the engine slightly to the left, with about 20mm different in length driveshafts to help clearance.
We also cut part of the bulkhead crossmember away but that was to fit throttle bodies.
On Left hand drive cars, there is less problem with clearing the brake and clutch master cylinders.

Hi There!
I 've found myselve an engine G13B, 1992.
Soon I 'll have it picked up. When my JiG is ready to build a subframe I'll post some pics.
The price of the complete engine, fuellpump, ECU, shaft, alternator, etc is 300 EURO.
The engine has been bought by a friend of mine. I was thinking it was a MKI engine... Atchi is right.... We bought a MKII 1992 engine... sorry for confusing you here... (and myselve (-:)

I hope you have all of wiring and ECU.
Your Dizzy will be controlled by ECU.
Good luck with building your subframe and wiring.

Hi Atchi!
Thanks!!
You are right... The engine is somewhere else. I have not seen it with my own eyes. I read the advertisement wrong.... It is a 1992 Swift.
I have everyting complete:
ECU
Shafts
Wiring
Alternator
Clockpannel
Fuellpump
Clutch
etc.
As soon as possible it comes to my place. I'll build the frame, my friend is doing all the wiring.... I'll watch...help,.. and learn....

A good day to get some dirty hands! As you can see, the engine is getting a better look!
Got it all cleaned and the top of the cams got some new paint. I'll think i use this color as a primer. Have not decided witch color I'll use in the EngineBay.

Today was a good day to build the JIG for the Suz-mini Subframe. I made the JIG with some wheels so I can roll it over in my garage. I used 40x40x2 tube and some restmaterial of other projects. Like; 80x40x2 and some 3 mm plate material.
I ordered some mounts too , hope they come as soon as possible. I took cilinder 70x45 solidmounts, I'll think that will do the job.
Here some pics of the JIG:

A hot day again in the old greenhouse, but I got the transmission fitted back on the engine. I made myselve a tool to center the clutchplate, otherwise it was a hell of job to fit the transmission back on.
A lot of action with my grinder and you see the frame will get closer as it shoot be. I made the tube for the manifold to short. I ran out of 35x35mm tube so I took some 40x40mm extra to relocate it on the subframe.
Can Anybody tell me how far I can build to the left on the picture. I can imagine that the weel can hit the frame when you steer on max angle?

Hi Jasper,
You should ask admin/moderator to move this posts to build diary section.
This is your build so they will move it for you.
I was going to say you will need to fit water pump pulley so you can see clearance but you have done it now.
Your subframe looks good and clean, not like mine!
The way you are going, you will finish before me.... .

Hi,
You are doing same mistake as I did.
It won't fit in Mini.
Your exhaust manifold is farther forward than front panel of your Mini.
You will need to stand up your engine bit more.
It looks like yours is 15 degrees or so.
You need to make(aim) 5 degrees. trust me I have been there and made 3 attempts.
Good luck.

HI Atchi
Thank you for your comment! I was thinking exactly the words you spoke. Today I will work on it again en I'll make the angle a bit les.
Hope that 'll work. I had some problems at the back, fitting the transmission in. Do not want the engine to touch the frame at any place.
Thanks a lot for your support!

Hi,
You will have 2 problems with G13B build.
1. You need to change angle of engine how it sit in the subframe. It will cause following issues:-
a)The oil sump is really low and worry about hitting everything.... :? .
b)you cannot use OEM front engine mount.
c)your exhaust manifold will be touching front panel and it may catch fire...if you are using GRP  .
2.Water pump pully will touch subframe tower. So you will need to cut out and close it again using fla plate to retain strength.
Otherwise, I think this engine is very compact and suits conversion very well. There are many after market parts for tuning and you can get 150 Bhp without not so much cost.
Cheers

At this stage, before welding up the mounts, we tried fitting the subframe into the car, and adjusted the positions a little.
You might also want to think about your alternator mounting before you finish the front right engine mount.
Our build, and most of the ones I have seen, extend that mount outward to mount the alternator in a reversed position.
We used thicker metal for the engine mounts, but that doesn't mean that yours isn't strong enough, maybe ours are a bit too thick !

You are right. I've a location in mind for the Alternator. The Enginemounts can ben replaced if that will do it.
Today I'll finish the frame. I do not think I have time enough to fit in the mini.

Took out the mini Engine this weekend. I am allmost ready to lift of my old subframe, trim the wings etc. After that my new build subframe will have a test fit. The mounting brakets I made are tacked in place, i have not welded in anything.
Still a bit concerned about the axhoust manyfold. Tilt the engine back to 5 degrees, but I am still not sure.
How low is your oilsump? Make sure you find an answer from an original point of the mini frame.
Thank you!

Hi,
That was my concern, too.
So to make it better, I have cut and shut to make it lower.

I think it is about 35mm shorter than what used to be.
I need to measure how much less oil but it looks OK.

Hi Guys
Atchi your idea with the sump is good, but there are more parts that are on the same level of height. I first want to make the frame and an engine fit. After that the wiring, exhaust, clutch etc. Did you welded it TIG or MIG?
I am still looking for some answers that make clear how much space you have in height from an original minipoint to the end of the oilsump.
Can anybody post some pictures of their frame at the sumpside. Dit not have enough space to build a nice part.

We used a stick welder wound up to about 140 amps with 2.6mm rods to weld the subframe. We have a small mig welder mainly for bodywork and the penetration of the stick welder was better on the 3mm box section.

For the height of the engine in the body, what we did was to set the ride height of the body first, put temporary driveshafts in (made from dowel) then sit the engine in the body so that the driveshafts were dead level.

After that I can spray the inside car, I think I'll make it all the right colour... BLACK!

Saturdag I have an other complete day to work!
I also ordered a gearbox of a Suzuki 13oocc Standard. I want to drive 10 inch wheels.
Speedy also offered me to fix my wire-ing. That is great!
