Hello

Ive just started my non A series project and have got a 1.4 16V Spi engine including rather burnt interior Metro GTA for £40.
I was wondering if the injection and ECU system were worth using , because I would rather use a couple of twin 40's instead

regards

i am sure geehawk will fill you in more .. but i will do some guessing :)

i am sure the std ecu etc is not that hard to wire in ,
i am not sure if you can get a weber manifold off the shelf for the the k-eries ???

I believe that you can get a webber manifold for a K series, try Demon Tweeks.

That said the injection system is not that hard to wire up (although I used the complete Metro loom so that made it even easier) and it has been done a few times. Someone help me out here ???

As yours is the SPi, there is limited tuning potential in the future, as all the larger displacement engines used Mpi, so you may want to consider a change to Mpi injection if you go that route. NB. A 1.6 or 1.8 can be run using all 1.4 ancillaries, ECu etc from an MPi, you just have to fit a higher pressure fuel regulator and/or bigger injectors.

As far as webbers are concerned, you will have a problem with the ignition as there is no easy way to fit a dizzy to the injection K series. I have heard rumours of someone that runs webbers using the original ECU to control ignition only, but as the Mems is not programmable I doubt it would be a very good solution. Alternatively you could invest in a 3rd party ignition ecu, this of course would then probably get more complicated that sticking with the injection system.

Hope some of that helps

Many thanks for you advice, I think I will try and use the Spi and ECU systems as fitted as standard and take it from there.

How much do MPi system go for 2nd hand?
