Hi all.
Ive been on here for ages but have yet to put up a build diary!
This is my clubby

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g260/jonbar123/DSC00130.jpg
i started off with the standard engine
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g260/jonbar123/DSC00184.jpg
But then i bought this mighty wagon!
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g260/jonbar123/DSC00257.jpg
its a b16a1.
i bought blox competition cams, cam gears, b16b pistons, GSXR throttle bodies and a chipped ecu.
Also the fly is getting lightened and a limited slip diff will be fitted at some point.
heres the throttle bodies
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g260/jonbar123/DSC00315.jpg
and the inlet manifold

If all goes well it'll be finished by summer.
Still need to sort out the radiator, fuel system, exhaust, and dash.
also i'd quite like a carbon fibre bonnet as i dont like the scoop mine has at the moment.
All coming along quite well, its getting very exciting as it wont be long now!! Horrah!!! :D

looks well mate. what type of scoop is on it? my build is also on ni-minis!
typhax
03-04-2008, 09:27 PM
hey,
it's the scoop that came with the car when i bought it. I think it would look well if it had the black carbon fibre bonnet with the weave showing.
I saw ur build on ni-minis. looks to be coming on well. When you hoping to be finished?

Hi mate,
Ive seen your mini on another website. Always liked the way it looked!!... will be interested to see your progress..
What brake setup did you have before you began the conversion?

hey.
Thanks, I should make a fair amount to progress over the next few weeks. I was waiting on the cams arriving before I started on the engine. They seemed to take ages.
The brakes were 8.4" grooved discs with the standard calipers.
Just the standard drums on the back. I'll probably invest in a set of them minifin drums tho.

typhax
07-06-2008, 12:09 PM
Hey,
I'm not sure really, but i think around 190bhp wouldn't be a ridiculous amount to hope for?
Anyone else have an idea :?: :?: :?:
minimadd
08-06-2008, 01:34 AM
reading back on your mods and doing a little research, standard b16a1 has 164bhp, i think maybe if your engine is getting rebuilt or refreshed a bit then with your planned mods you may be looking at 200bhp+ depending on the chip and cam specs.
but don't quote me on that for certain.
how is it coming along anyway?
typhax
09-06-2008, 05:41 PM
200 would be class, but sure we'll see how it come along.
Im getting ready for a big push with the mini come next week.
Im finished my exams tomorrow, :D and there are a lot of boxes with parts just waiting in my garage!
Have to get the fuel system sorted along with a radiator. then just really the guages to order up!
No doubt there'l be a few hiccups along the way :P :P

hi all.
exams finished yesterday, so ive been busy today fitting my brakes.
i used metro 4 pots but with the standard mini flange, so i got the "front " of the discs milled down to the same size as the mini ones.
everything fits well. :D
heres the old disc on the left, and the milled metro on the right

I tucked the heater up behind the dash on the left hand side. This leaves the area free, and hopefully will look nice and tidy when carpeted.

The guages are the autometer ultra ligh series. Got them from real steel.
I was a bit worried when i ordered them as i thougt they might look a bit funny, but im well pleased. Looks even better than in the pictures! :D :D

Looking good!! There's nothing better than having all the bit's in the garage and bolting it all together, no messing!
I've got the same gearbox and have been looking for a hydraulic conversion same as you have, whereabouts did you get that from?
Like the exhaust backbox btw, twin outlets will keep them guessing..... 8)

Hey, Thanks for the replies.
I got the clutch cylinder from rally designs. Im goin to try and keep the mini master cylinder, but if the pedal is rubish then i think it works well with the wilwood master cylinder (0.625)
http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=4080
Yeah I like the back box much more than i did at first. The exhaust manifold is a 2.5" outlet, where as the back box is 2". However i intend to run it as 2.5 the whole way down, and TIG it into the box.
I also ordered some 45 degree bends of silicone to get the itbs squeesed in.
Should fit ok. :D :D
Deger
01-08-2008, 06:44 PM
Thanks for the info, gonna go for one of them.... Much easier, tidier than trying to get a cable mounting & leverage right for a soft pedal. :? Let me know how you get on with the mini master cylinder.
The rest is looking ace, keep us posted with your progress.
Cheers

Hi all.
Ive really been making a push to get the wiring loom finished.
Heres the engine half.

Just have a bit more soldering to do the other half and its finished. Thankfully.... seems to take for ever!!

Im going to have a stab at mine this weekend!...

Hey,
are you keeping your mini and honda looms seperate?
Thats what i did. worked out really well in the end.
I also stipped the honda loom right back and shortend it a fair bit then removed the fuse box and ignition.
The fuses I have are all in line or else not there.
Its definately worth going the extra mile it in the end.
I now have a neet and compact loom that splits at the bulkhead to drop the engine out with that half still plugged in.

Looking Well dude, must get down to see it shortly!
Haven't got much more done to mine as i need front fiberglass sportspack arches to mould in before i get it painted. Havin a hard time with filing and rubbing the extended wings. It's like 2 fwd and 6 steps back every night ! But drivers side done and another night should finish the passangers side! Then 'll call on your expertise with the wiring!

Hey Dale,
Hows things?
Yeah would imagine the body work is annoying! Im not going to worry about mine until the winter months.
Feel free to call down any time, though give me a heads up as the place is a mess
:D
When do you think you'll be finished?
My hopes for the end of august are looking doubtful. I have to go to hospital, and go back to uni before then. I think end of september is more reasonable :?
Mintegra
18-08-2008, 08:48 AM
Yeah - keeping them both seperate... I indend todo the same as you im just not 100% which sensors, connectors I need to retain..

mintegra...
i was able to cut out the idle control valve and map sensors as i am using the itbs.
Basically you keep all the sensors in the loom thats there already.
If you want you can keep the fan switch seperate (by just wiring directly to the fan) and I never bothered with the oil pressure light or the alternator check light.
My starter motor terminal is my main positive point for the engine and dash part of the loom, so i just fed everything from there with the fuses in line.
hope that makes sense

Hey,
To cut a long story short my ITB's are no longer being fitted.
So i got a type r intake with a skunk2 66mm TB.
This should be a lot easier mapped, and I regain my idle control valve. :D :D

Hey again.
Got a bit more work done today. The bulk head is cut enough for the intake to fit, but im a bit concerned about where the throttle body is.
I wouldnt think air flow is great?
Also got the radiator position sorted.

Hey,
The subframe was built by a friend. Its quite similar to the allspeed one in terms of engine position etc.
I dont have any photos apart from whats on here, but i'll try an take some next time the engine is out. :D
