thought it was about time i started my build thread.
not a huge amount has been done yet but the last 2 months has been spent rebuilding the mini shell which was in a pretty poor state.
I'll let the pictures do the talking for now and when i start to put it together i'll start bugging everyone for help! lol
cheers
Dan.

This does look very nice, always good too see a poor shell put back on the road.

thats right, i couldnt just let my old mini die. i've had it for 11 years now so restoring the shell is just as important to me as doing the engine conversion.
i managed to get a bit more work done on the rear subframe today as it wasnt raining. also undersealed the rear 1/2 of the shell.
cant wait to get a rolling chassis. things should start to move quicker once its rolling (no pun intended lol)

been busy all day yesterday and got a fair amount done :) the mini is now back on its rear wheels, all brake lines and suspension are fitted. plenty of stone chip protection applied to the underside too ...
the subframe was an absolute nightmare to line up but i got it in the end.
Subframe ready to fit. new copper lines fitted and braided hoses that go straight to the radius arms. means you can get rid of the solid pipe.
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p28/dmarti_2006/100_2450.jpg
the radius arms before and after shot. the 2nd hand stuff i bought wasnt exactly the best in the world but after some serious cleaning and a lick of paint they came up pretty good!
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p28/dmarti_2006/100_2412.jpg
radius arms reconditioned and ready to fit.
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p28/dmarti_2006/100_2451.jpg
New suspension bits :D :D
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p28/dmarti_2006/100_2452.jpg
and after many hours struggling and swearing here it is all in.

and finally the car is back on it wheels . well only at the rear lol.

more to do tomorrow. i'll make a start cleaning and painting this:

im sorry its been so long since i updated the build.
ive had a few issues with getting parts and stuff but a bit more has been done .
basically ive had trouble when buying some front hubs.... wont go into it but it wasted about 2 months of my build time.
anyway ive been working on making my own brake pipes, which is not too hard if you get some good instuctions which i found on the internet. fitted all the brake pipes this weekend and then bled them this morning, which to my surprise worked first time! goes to show those homemade brake pipes are ok... lol
the silver stuff on the bulkhead is a heatproof matting that i decided to use to cover up the no-so-good paint and it might help with the sound deadning that im going to try and achieve to make this car not too deafening to drive :)
as you can see from the pics all the front suspension is done, the brakes are all done and the next thing to fit is probably the engine! woo hoo!

sweet job mate, is it me or is the paint brown?
Your doing a good job on this mini. Those are some big speaker holes in the rear parcel self and i like how advan is moulded into the tread on the tyres. Top work :)

yea its an Allspeed frame.
never noticed 'Advan' on the tyres before. there sposed to be yokos rofl.
does anyone think i will have trouble running on 10" wheels? (im not on about wheels spin but the Final drive)

Depends on what size tyres you use. I've got a set of 10's with 165x70 Yoki advans and up against my 205x45 13's, there's nothing in it. You could always change the final drive before it goes in.

Looks nice, are you going to run throttle bodies as you haven't cut the bulkhead.
minidan
18-08-2008, 05:39 PM
the tyre size is 165/70/10 so might be ok? i think i'll see how it goes before changing the final drive.
as for the bulkhead, not exactly sure what im going to do yet. could run throttle bodies but not sure which ones i can use or if i can afford them. ( ideas? )
didnt someone on here cut the intake and join it back up using silicon tubes??
does that work?

well it went in ok. a few scratches on the subframe but nothing major.
does it look like its in the right place? i cant get it any more level than it is.
also its a lot tighter than i expected lol! in some places theres only 2-3 mm gap between engine and subframe. i hope it doesnt knock and bang when driving...

i still need some inner cv joints if thats what you mean mate.
Hi! Very nice project you got going on.
One question...is this the mini that was in a "flip front guide" with the white arches and circles on the door?
I hope it is as that is one of my favourite looking minis! Even better with 10's and a Honda motor!
:D
