I'm bored at home at the moment. I'm feeling like crap, so just watching a few dvds. And yes, I do reply to absolutely everything

I think everone who signs up to Chit Chat should check in on this post so that we know who's joined (I can't be arsed to check the Usegroups information bit)

Anyway, I think I might just catch a bit of shuteye for a little while.

Gotta agree with you there Matt - get in the garage Chad !!!!
Hopefully I'll finish the gearbox fron tsteady tonight (using another landrover mount of course!) - managed to make some brackets for a rear steady using the old mini front steady on saturday and bought some poly bushes for it at MITP !
Then its onto the drivers side of the subframe ! Eeek ! Not looking forward to that one !

MattOK, I dragged my butt into the garage last night - it actually made me feel a lot better too!
I decided to make a start on rebuilding the driveshafts. SAE stripped the mini and honda drive shafts to pieces, did the cut and shut, and then left all the remaining bits in a grease filled cardboard box - nice.

My experience with CV joints was absolutely none, but I have now learnt several different things:

- the many different ways of how not to put a CV joint together
- how difficult incorrectly assembled CV joints are to dismantle
- just how annoying circlips are
- just how crap circlip pliers are
- how to keep the screaming to a minimum after sticking an electrical screwdriver into your hand for the eighteenth time
- electrical screwdrivers are much stronger than thumb nails
- and eventually, how to assemble a CV joint and driveshaft

I also managed to confirm my knowledge of the fact that the Haynes manual is rubbish!

All in all, a good day! Whilst nursing my war wounds (and trying to get the grease out from under my nails), I am content in the fact that I have two complete usable driveshafts :D

Well done ! I would do the same but I dont have any CV joints or drive shafts yet !! :( !
Instead I started looking into making some alternator brackets last night, and took a grinder to an old honda engine mount to save me the time of making the bottom part to fit on the gearbox - just need to attack it with the welder and attach another landrover mount now !! :)

How many Landrover mounts do you have now? I bet there's loads of things you could use them for if you put your mind to it - you could mount your seat subframe with them for a nice cushioned ride!!!

Good idea ! Mind you, I did find a site the other day that sells the air-suspension seat frames for US truck drivers !!!!!! Think my head might stick out the top of the mini though if I use one of those !!!!

Never mind - if your head sticks out the top, you could always build a protective frame out of landrover mounts

See, you can do anything with them!!

Using a giant meccano set, I reckon you could make a landrover out of them

I'm going to design an immobiliser for my engine, that seals the throttle bodies, so there is no way that it can be started...

out of....

FOUR LANDROVER MOUNTS!!!

Alright, I promise not to make any more landrover mount jokes, as they are wearing a bit thin now!!

On a more serious note:
I would do the same but I dont have any CV joints or drive shafts yet!
So what are you going to do about driveshafts then? Are you going to make your own?
