Well... I suppose I'll start a thread although it'll be a while before the majority of the work starts. I think it's time to start logging my build though as I finally acquired an engine yesterday 8)

It is a D16Z6 from a 1995 Honda Civic EX. They are good for about 120 hp at the flywheel stock. We'll see if that satisfies me or if I'll work on getting the turbo components made up right away. I might never drive it N/A just because I don't have the header and would have to source one... but we'll see.

Well, I finally got it on the engine stand today and started tearing it down today.

Boooo... looks like one of the valve cover bolts is fucked. It seems to have been cut with a hacksaw as well not sure what happened there but the hole is all fucked up too. We'll have to see what can be done about that.

Best use of the MOMO e-brake handle ever... makes a good cheater

Intake mani removed.

Hmmm. Gasket is messed up. Never seen anything like this, it's disintegrating. Weird.

This is also strange, is this oil in the throttle body? Looks odd to me, but I've never torn an engine down before.

Anyhoo, this is lots of fun, I'm enjoying myself... I'll probably end up pulling the head on Tuesday or something.

looking good.

A turbo d series will be quick as in the mini.

I wouldnt worry about the oil in the throttle body. Mine was exactly the same. think its just dirt and greese stuff getting in there.

Cool... thanks. I'm probably just paranoid because I got it so cheap

As typhax says, I wouldn't worry about the oil - its mostly from the PCV system that vents all that crud back into the inlet :)

Progress... not engine progress but I picked these babies up at an irresistible price so I couldn't say no 8)

Ahhh... what a difference a new pair of shoes makes :D. I'm gonna need some fender flares to cover these fatties!

Ohhh yeah I def. will. Since it's a high of -1*F today and my garage isn't heated it'll be a couple months before I can do any serious work on the car, but I'm sooooooooooo excited to get the project under way! I can't freeking wait

I assume its still on drums ATM ? you can add about an inch to the width when you fit discs too

Defo need to spray the centres blue to match the car tho 8)

Yep still on drums :| I hope not to have to use too much of a spacer, but I guess it's kind of inevitable eh? I'm not sure if the car is going to stay blue... although the color is growing on me. It'd look really sharp with carbon fiber arches too :D too bad they cost $400.00 from the only guy I know who makes 'em. I might try and do a CF overlay myself or just paint them black. I think the centers are going to need to be re-finished eventually so powdercoating might be in order... but the cosmetic stuff is going to wait until after the POWER is installed  I'm even keeping the doo doo brown interior... for now. I'm fiberglassing the dash board though, and putting in 6 gauges other than the Tach and Speedo, if it works out like I'm planning it's going to be SICK.

So here's a couple of bad pics of my dash mockup. It's tough to see how it all works but I'm stoked :D The very center is the radio placed vertically, then 6.5" speakers on each side at an angle, above them will be a gauge pod for my boost, oil press, oil temp, water temp, volt, and AFR gauges, on either side are the air vents (these are standard and take air straight from the outside into the cab) and I'm using a standard Civic EX instrument panel for speedo, tach and fuel level. Under the radio are the switch panels; the top for lights etc and the bottom one for heater controls.

I have the first piece cut out of MDF and hopefully I'll be doing some construction on it in the next few days. Then, as soon as it's warm enough I'm going to start fiberglassing it in. Whaddya think?

Oh, as a side note... yes I have to switch to LHD otherwise I'll end up with a TON of work to do modifying the steering rack and if you mess that up you're asking for your steering to either fail or be improperly adjusted... which I wish to avoid.

Iron raven. Are you using the D series kit from mini tec? I have major problems with the cage in the mini outer cv. i had a shop try to press them in with the minitec piece in the cv and the cage to the bearings exploded
