Do I need a radiator fan - the manual has one? if so what do I use or am I being silly again?!!!

Yes you do need a radiator fan, mainly so it doesnt overheat in trafic.
I used a nissan radiator

It was metal so easy to modify.

Yes you will need a cooling fan otherwise you will find the engine overheating when sat in traffic etc, The size of fan you require will depend upon the size of rad you have fitted. my advice is to fit the largest possible. i have used an electric kenlowe on the rear of my rad which sucks air through it, the fan can be fitted on the front but then needs to blow the air through.

Sorry - but how does it come on automaticaly - is this built into the rad or is this something taht needs wireing up?

normally rad's have a hole for a fan sensor. you can buy them at your local car factors

Take a look at the cooling sections of the Demon Tweeks or Merlin Motorsport web sites. They do fans, in various sizes which are still quite thin, and mount directly to the rad. They can be set to push or pull air through. They also do adjustable thermostat switches so you can choose when the fan comes on (i.e. what temperature), rather than having it set for you.
