ok after recent events i needed somthing to take my mind of things, and started thinking of my old v6 again. I never did take it to any shows.

so i thought its about time i build another one. :

got rusty old estate :

get a semi built vauxhall frame and drop a big 2.5 litre v6 engine into it :

http://www.16vminishop.co.uk/album/Vauxhall/Mine%20v6/slides/SP_A0081.jpg

lots of problems but have faced them before

thats awesome. the engine going front or rear? Looks like it'll be major foulage with the bulkhead X-member if it goes front

Looking forward to seeing this develop!

Last one was in the front so dont see why this cant work, especially if he is keeping the Clubman front 8)

front cast exhaust manifold was cut and we-welded to clear clubman front... not sure if it will hold ... :)

bulkhead cut .. need a little more out this time as the engine sits a little further back in this frame.

sump and oil pickup have been modified to clear frame as well.
started making extra pully thats needed to make water pump turn correctly.

will update with pics tommorow.

this v6 has traction controll .. hmmmmm i wonder if i can get it to work ??

Hi Matt,

If you cranked up the MIG enough the cast should be OK...

For the MR2 lump, I butt welded some mild pipes to the cast fanny-mould flange, and no signs of cracking after a years use - bearing in mind there is nothing else supporting the front 1/2 of the exhaust.

Ok - having said that, I bet it falls off on the way to MITsomewhereelse.

What is the cut out in the slam panel for?

Did you have to chop the bulkhead in the end?

ed4ran
03-09-2007, 06:00 PM
Looks like it could be to allow him to lower the engine into the engine bay with the exhaust manifold attached. :? Although that is just a guess

MattG
03-09-2007, 06:52 PM
the cut out was to allow the water pump inlet pipe to clear .. allthough if i had removed rear inlet it would have gone in ... i reach for the disc cutter first.

i have now removed the slam pannel completly as its assiting in fitting the rad

will take a pic of bulkhead mods once engine is out again

Removeable slam panels make it much easier to get the gearbox to fit in and out - that was the only think making the engine removal a pain in the butt with the mrs' car so I just chopped it out !
Making good progress there Matt :)

www.v6mini.com , i built it , and it went to the USA .. so you should not bump into it over here..

matt

jimfai
02-10-2007, 11:57 AM
it's still in seattle, WA i believe, no worries about bumping into it. i liked the car, thought it was very fun to drive. more than enough torque for a little mini. i always thought that you should get the rwd tranny for it and build one that way matt.
