I'm considering transplanting the old A+ engine in my Metro GTa for a Suzuki twincam lump, but I have a few questions first:

- How big is the Suzuki 1300 twincam compared to the A series and how much work would be required to drop a Suzuki engine into an Austin Metro engine bay? Would I have to completely remove the inner wings and extend the front end like some of the other engine transplant?

- Could the A series subframe be modified to take a Suzuki engine or do you guys base your subframes on K series subframes?

Any help would be appreciated,

thanks.

Im not sure that this has been done before so you could be on your own abit with regards to body mods.
The A series is narrower and shorter than the swift gti lump but i think the swift isnt as tall due to the angle it sits at.
All us mini boys are using a modified A series mini frame or a frame designed to run the suspension from the mini but you could use a K frame as i image the engine will fit better from the start due to the side by side engine gearbox arrangement that its designed for.

Good luck

(but wouldnt it just be easier to drive the swift? They look abit like metros after all! )

Thanks for the advice. The reason I ask is because I recently bought a 1990 Austin Rover GTa (similar spec as the turbo, not the later euroblob) with only 40,000 miles on the clock. I would like to modify it but don't want to wreck it and I also realise, through previous experience, just how much A series engines cost to release good power. I had considered using a K series engine for the swap but would prefer something a bit different, not too powerful for the car, with both cheap tax and insurance.

To me the G13B seems like a good option but I dont really know about Suzuki engines, so what's the engine really like?

Hi,

Welcome to Suzuki bit of 16v Mini site...
First of all G13B engine has 2 varients in Europe(in general).
Mk1 and Mk2.
Mk1 has mechanical+vacume advance dizzy with ECU driven injectors.
Mk2 has ECU controled everything.

Gearbox wise, mk1 is more compact and cross pin as std(4 planet gears)
Mk2 has single pin with 2 planet gears with small pin which keeps in place.
But this pin does break easily if you have heavy right foot!

Both engines are same size but diffrent out put.
Mk1 ph1 97ps, ph2 110ps(not sure you can get it or not in UK....but this is what I got in manual from Japan)
Mk2 onwards has 105Bhp or 108ps, something like that...

If you can get hold of JDM Cultus, then you are talking about more power.
Std JDM is 115 BHP.

If you do search, you will see engine size I have posted before.

Good luck with your conversion.

Cheers
Atchi
