That would be great mate thank you, I don't want anything that's going to be a pain in the bum 8)
Yes Mark I think they did! Bit of a revamp and colour change and a new interior, so yeah just about everything really! We're nearly there with the stripping down now..:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/enginenearlyout.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/noengine1.jpg
This is the part of the frame which is going to have to be slightly reworked as the manifold currently completely gets in the way of it. It's going to be tricky to get the measurements exactly right but shouldn't be too much of a nightmare. I have also Spoken to zcars today who have 2.5" backboxes sitting on the shelf, they are centre exit though so they're just going to re-jig one to side exit for me which has cetainly saved a headache.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/subframe-adjustment.jpg
Few more bitties:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/newclutch.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/heatwrap.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/extinguisher.jpg
Now a rolling shell:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/driveshaftsbackin.jpg
Then a dash of engine cleaner and a tub of elbow grease:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/justcleaned.jpg
Odd:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/justcleanedside.jpg
Bit messy:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/wiryint1.jpg
Bit tidier:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/nothingint2.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/spanner2.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/spanner1.jpg
Panel in the rear has now been replaced, welded and primed:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/primedweld2.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/primedweld1.jpg
And the suspension's been reinforced a bit more:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/primedsuspension1.jpg
This is how far it's got with reworking the frame, as shown, this is so the engine will fit with the new manifold:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/newframeworkdiag.jpg
We quickly lobbed the manifold on to measure it up, it hugs very nicely indeed to the engine, and is biiiiiig! It may be rather loud...

That manifold looks nice, how close is it to the block ?
That manifold looks nice, how close is it to the block ?
Hugs very close to it indeed but should be ok, main problem is the AMT frame don't work with it so we've done this:
Mick is a legend!!
The first try at reworking the frame to compensate for the manifold has worked an absolute treat!
had to take a hammer to the floor as it was sitting on it but that's fine too now 8)

Loads of room for the radiator too, well chuffed! :D

New sterring wheel weighs about as much as a gnat's arsehole
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/tinywheelmomo.jpg
Basically all done now ready for the bodyshop, bloody pain is I'm waiting on the seats, we want to weld the subframes to the floor to avoid any leaky hole drilling, so it needs to be done before it goes in on Monday, fingers crossed... :?

hmm wonder if it would fit my Allspeed frame....
Spent the afternoon recovering my Autoplas dash with a yummy velevety-felt stuff, I'm really happy with it, looks all nice and rally!
I'm shite at this kind of stuff but I showed myself spending enough time and care doing it, it can be done! Mwah hahahaha!!
Sorry bout picture quality but it does look better in the flesh!

cool joe , what stuff did you use on the dash then
Matt
Just a kind of felty velvety fabric stuff that I got from my local fabric shop, sanded the dash down to get some scratches on it and then used spray glue for carpets, seems to have worked fine, I on;y had to cut it in a few places to get rid of some folds, was an absolute nightmare to do though and took about 5hours  But then I'm a flid so it actually wasn't that long at all
Digidash is much smaller than I thought
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/tinydash.jpg
New Nippon Denso Alternator, much lighter and smaller than original, innit.....

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/unwornpic1.jpg
Spent a very mucky few hours cleaning all of the sump oil feed etc, very satisfying result :D :

All clean and back together ready for a bit of lacquer:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/cleangearbox2.jpg

Hello!
Been a few days since the last update because I kept forgetting to take my camera to Mick's with me!
Had an eventful and exciting day today! Pasty came over and picked up my old redtop, cheers muchly..
Sorry there's quite a few pics here...
New Cambelt has been fitted and new cambelt cover is on.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/carboncambeltcoverfitted.jpg
Below are some pictures of the alternator bracket we made, consiating of three seperate pieces altogether. We wanted to make sure it was easy to adjust and easy to change a belt on it which is why we created a sliding mechanism so fine adjustments can be made and there's also enough room to use some washers if we need to align it up more but we won't know until it's running!
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/alternatorbracket2.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/alternatorbracket1.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/alternatorbracket3.jpg
Sits nice a tidy and plenty of room for the manifold!
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/alternatorandmanifold.jpg
Now for the fun bit! :D Fitting the throttle bodies:
Nice and clean, that's what we like!
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/cleanandready.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/inletmanifoldfitted.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/throttlebodiesgettingthere.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/boschbeigeinjectors.jpg
Fuel rail and injectors fitted:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/throttlebodiesfitted.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/fuelrailandinjectorsfitted.jpg
I'm a bit worried these are going to suck all the air out of the cockpit and suffocate me!! :o
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/throttletrumpetsheadon.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/throttletrumpetsside2.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/throttletrumpetsside1.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/itgairfilterfitted2.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/artythrottlebodies.jpg
Thinking of this for the plug cover:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/suggestedplugcover.jpg
Speedo sensor for the Digidash has been installed on the driveshaft with a bracket we made up:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/speedosensorcloseup.jpg
Back view of engine and speedo sensor visible
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/rearenginefullspeedosensor.jpg
And cleaned up the thermostat housing and removed the thermostat, nice!!
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/thermostathousing.jpg
Right then moved onto some electronic things today for a change of scenery!
First thing that needed to be done was to modify the fuel tank to accept the fuel sender for the digidash:
The fuel sender needed to be modified as in standard length was too long for my fuel tank so it would never register as being empty:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/fuelsender.jpg
We quite simply cut the piece accordingly and used a metal clamp from an electric connection to secure it:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/fuelsenderadjusted.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/fuelsenderresized.jpg
Cut into the fuel tank:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/fueltankcut.jpg
And all fitted! A test with the digidash has confirmed it all works fine. The fuel level gauge comes up on the LED display as a percentage (e.g. 75%) which is quite a cool little touch.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/fuelsenderfitted2.jpg
We decided to hook up the Digidash to a battery and connect the sensors to the engine to check we were getting correct signals through and to just have a play around with it:
Check out this vid I uploaded quickly of the dash starting up, Knightrider all the way baby yeah!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSc58HWWvdw
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/digidashturnedon.jpg
My brakes turned up! wohoo!!! (Thanks Matt  )

Awsome stuff Joe, is there a correct term in modified car circles like the ladies retail therapy as you must be one happy teddy with those throttle bodies.
Are you keeping the car the same colour? I can see it now "Oh look at the lovely little mini darling" as it eats them whole and spits them out, going to be a monster me thinks.
Thanks for some more inspiration for more power
Will
   I've tried to think of a witty reply to your question but I've failed miserably... Cabbages and Cartridge paper!! Ha!!
I kno what you mean though
Subframe has now been sprayed and looks brand new again which is nice, and the adjusted bit looks like it's standard which is nice!

Very Nice Joe, how much were the wheels in the end?
Fank oo Mr Darren!!
The wheels were £480 including tyres.
Almost half the price of the 3 piece wheels which I couldn't justify getting.
Mmmmmmmm Quaife!!
Thanks MarkLD, migweb chap came up trumps and saved me well over 100 notes 8)

No Darren they are just pathetic pretend ones. I wasn't prepared to pay that much for real ones and were never keen on the fakes, but anything else in black was a 6 week wait which was too long so I took a shot in the dark and seeing them in the flesh I actually really like them a lot!
Yes the colour is going to something more snot-like
Hmm yes very much will be doing L2B, reminds me I must send off my application, I take it the stands still full?? :?
Whats a good price for a diff and where do I buy one?
Mine is a Quaife ATB, I phoned them and they quoted me around £660 including vat  and this didn't include the bearings or seals needed to change it.
However MarkLD the god came up with this link:
http://www.migweb.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=158695&highlight=atb+diffs
He's based in Hertfordshire, very helpful chap and sent me the diff and all bearings and seals promptly for £550  :D :D
Would definately recommend him!

Nearly there and ready to start it! SOrry about the BandW pics but they're the only ones I've got to hand as I'm winding some people up about the colour who won't look on here!
The Sump gasket had fouled so we replaced that which took a while but was doable on the frame which was handy as I thought we'd have to take it off.
A lot of metal chopping welding and griding today to get the exhaust made up too.
We're really getting there now! got quite a bit done today on the wiring front of things got it rolling on it's wheels too now.

Here's a mock up for the "Complex" exhaust we are grafting

Ooh bright light!! Go Mick! Lol!
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/MickWeldingZorstBWPicOne.jpg
Measured, cut, spot welded and mocked up for fitment, all looking good, I do need to source a piece of flexi-pipe though as it's straight from the manifold and bolted to the boot floor so I need something that will give it a bit of give, but success with this bit all the same

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/toakley/minirebuild/RearCanFittedBWPicTwo.jpg
That's it for the moment, like I said above it's getting closer and closer to starting it up for the first time and annoying the neighbours!! Can't bleedin' wait!! :D

Looks fantastic Joe, makes me want to strip mine down again and do some alterations
Any thoughts on getting it featured again in its new incarnation?
Thanks Mark,
Yes it would be nice to get it featured again, I have a lot to talk about this time too! I wouldn't mind seeing what PPC or somewhere like that might think about doing it.

Started wrapping the exhaust manifold today, it munched up 50ft quite easily so I'm going to have to get another 50ft tomorrow to finish it off, which is a proper pineapple up the rear, no easter eggs for anyone this year! :P :o

Top part of each pipe is done but there's plenty more to go! :?

Very nice Joe, looking and sounding excellent.
Yes I'm very pleased Paul it's been a heck of a lot of effort to do it in such a short time but so nearly there now, just awaiting dashboard delivery!
It's not Kawasaki Green it's a VW colour called "Fantasia Green". But yeah almost Kawasaki!
