Hi all,

Took my car for a quick burst down the road last night. I put my foot down a little more than usual :) to see how she would go and there was a loos of power for a second or less - really weird. Any ideas what this could be? Could it not be getting enough fuel? I am using a Bosh fuel pump that Geoff supplied for me which sits on the subframe underneath the fuel tank. Any ideas how big th hole should be coming from the fuel tank?

If its not that what else could it be?

Cheers

Sounds like a fuel problem to me.

Does it just loose power for a few seconds and then clear itself?

Check the pump and the pipes and make sure nothing is squashing any fuel lines.
It could be the ecu not fueling correctly at a certain RPM or throttle load, its very difficult with what you have done to get it rigth first time. A rolling road session should sort it out.
Have you looked for a cell code the ecu might throw 1 up?

Could just as easily be a problem with the electrics... a dodgy wire can cause this exact symptom...

Loose earth leads/battery leads are a common one.

What colour/pin out is the light code thing that comes from the ECU? (p30 ecu) - this might help me out.

The pin in the red rectangle is the one you need. Im not entirely too sure what colour it is on the Honda loom, but its defo that pin. Just ground it and the CEL will flash the colours.

OK - thanks - what the hell is the CEL !! I have now fixed my problem with the power - it was a slightly twisted fuel line now fixed with a good spring.

Check engine light. When there is an engine issue it will flash a certain number of times. From this you can decode what is wrong with it.
Its handy to have. If you dont get the full wiring loom with your ecu/engine, you can wire one up to the appropriate pins on the ECU.
The 89-91 B16's and the 92-95 B16's are different in their operation of the CEL, the former having an LED inside the ECU, the later requiring you to short a pin to see the last set of codes on a dash mounted light.

OBD1 (92-95) pins:
A13 | GRN/ORN | check engine light (12V bulb or LED with appropriate resistance, active low)
D4 | BRN/WHT | service check connector (short to ground when you get a solid light to see the codes)

OBD0 (89-91) pin:
B6 | check engine light (12V bulb or LED with appropriate resistance, active low) tho this just indicates a fault you have to check the ECU for more info when you get a solid light.

ECU plugs are numbered as follow when looking at the ECU:

1357 etc
2468 etc

Plugs are called A,B,C for OBD0 and A,B,D for OBD1, looking at ECU left to right.

Dave, I get a 17 and sometimes a 43. The 17 I understand as I am feeding my Autometer speedo guage with the signal, and I think that is casuing the problem. From the wiring diagrams it looks like I should have 5 volts on the other side of the guage which would then feed the ECU? The 43 which is fuel related, can you tell me what casues it? Is this pressure? I did find a vacum leak in the manifold, a hose was split, which I cut back and reattatched. Would this have casued a 43 error? Thanks

I will have to have a look at all this - very interseting although I thing I have solved the original problem and was a kink in the fuel pipe.

OK - I am a little confused about this CEL thing as nominous said that the pin was where is should be on his pic but in this diagram - A13 is in a different place to his picture (sorry about the size)!!:

compaired to this one:

Which one is it?!!

Also whats the difference between the service cheack indicator and teh cel indicator - which one do I want? I take it this pin just acts as the positive and just needs bulb and earth to work.

When should the CEL come on? - When you turn the ign on or when you start it?
