View Full Version : Dash
Hi all,
If I were to go to a breakers yard, find a honda dash, rip out the clocks and cables, and connect it up to my mini will it all work peachy? Or does it just not work like that? I really want a working speedo and more accurate revs, just can't afford anything expensive, and thought some honda clocks would be quite good.
Is this easy and doable? :?:
if you have the full loom yeah, you'll need the right dash for your engine tho. i was looking to put an S2000 dash in mine until i saw the loom you needed, no amout of bodging and bullet connectors would have worked!!

Minimivic is the person to talk to. Have you got the honda loom - then it would be a piece of p..s When I was puting the loom intgo my car I also had the honda clocks and I plugged em in and they all worked brilliantly! So its easy if you have the loom! You would have to get the speedo recalibrated though. So yeh - its easy as long as you use everything honda I would say. It would still be possible if you wernt going to use the Honda stuff but how easy it is - well you would have to find that out yourself! :?
I have an instrement pod out of a standard civic (so doesnt go up to 9000 rmp) if you want one.
OK Thanks for that, I haven't actually got anything yet, I'm going to the scrappy on saturday though so if I don't have any luck I may have those clocks off you paul, at least my assumptions were correct, I can't see there being a problem getting the whole loom off, I'll let you all know how I get on :D
unplug, don't chop!!!
the ECU i have has the loom hanging off and hacked off about 18", god knows where everything goes!!!
any1 got a wiring diagram they'd like to share!!?!?

Paul,
Have you got another loom or the same one - cant you just match up the wire colours etc. If you had a new loom it would just plug in.
looms are a bit expensive, lots of it will not be used, all i have is the loom attached to the engine, thats all complete and not butchered. it's the ECU side of the loom, apparently they couldn't get it through the bulkhead so in true scrap yard style the took ti it with a saw by the looks of it!!!
just need to know what goes where and i'll use connectors, it should be ok
i don't think i'll need much of it, just engine side, and some of the dash.
if any1 has got a wiring diagram it'll be mucho apreciated!
i had a look on http://www.honda.co.uk/owner/workshopmanuals2.html seems to have everything but!!!!

Yeh - actually trying to find a diagram for the ecu is a bit of a pain in the ar$e - and I dont think I ever did actually find one. I bought the honda civic haynes manual from helfords and that has had everyting I have needed really. Wireing looms aint that expensive - I was in the same position a you and got one from a SOHC engined car for 30 quid.
is the SOHC the same as the DOHC loom?

Yes - as far as I could find there was no difference - only thing that is differant is the ECU. Mine works anyway! :D

The Honda clocks will work fine.
The speedo, revcounter and temp are all good, Fuel gauge is a nightmare to intergrate with the Mini sender. FBM spec and myself are working on a solution. We can get full readings and empty readings but not both when you need them. As for wiring its much easier to use the complete honda wiring loom, but if you trace the wires with a diagram you should be OK.

I have just orderd one of these to get the speedo from a Rover 25 reading accuratly. It seems to be the cheapest option in the uk.
Also has a cool feature that records the fastest speed so that at a press of a button you can display it again.
I have put the whole instrument pod in the car. All works well, apart form like minivic said, the fuel gauge! Ahh well who needs to know how much fuel you have anyway???
Thought you might be interested.

I just got this in the post today, not bad considering I only ordered it on Thursday and it was sent from Hungary.
Very easy to set up and works a treat. You just need to know the % difference you need, can use this site to give results for different tire sizes http://homepage.ntlworld.com/cattermole/tyres.htm
I have checked the accuracy with rpm and gear calculations and it is very accurate.
I love the feature that shows the fastest speed reached at the press of a button.
Would defiantly recommend this to anyone needing to re-calibrate their digital Speedo.
