The Holden Commodore VL fuel pump is an in line pump that comes with a nice noise isolating mounting bracket. Just like the GTi's fuel pump, it has a stall pressure of about 75psi and delivers about 35psi (240 kpa) in a circuit with a return. We are going to use one of these in our G13B Mini with the large tank that was fitted in the 1275GT mini because fitting the GTi pump in one of these isn't easy.

We've recently mounted a standard Swif GTi pump in the flat side of a smaller Mini tank for another conversion that needed a high pressure pump. We learned that the easy way to maintain the seal that Suzuki designed into the top of the Swift tank was to cut out the sealing rim and mounting flange then weld the whole lot into a cut out in the flat side of the Mini tank. OK, that meant that the GTI pump was vertical where it had been horizintal before but the Mini tank is tall and narrow rather that wide and flat. You get a problem with trying to do this with the larger 1275GT tank because it has a stiffening groove pressed into the flat side, so welding in the Swift's sealing rim and flange would be very difficult. And the Commodore VL pump was only $50 from a wrecker.

Of course, if you use the whole GTi pump assembly you get the return line thrown in. However, if you use an external pump you have to fit a return into the Mini tank to supplement the exisitng one (your donor Swift has one that can be cut to suit!) - but be careful because there is a gauze filter on the existing Mini fuel line that might impede the flow of fuel.

As for the fuel level sender unit, if you use the GTi pump assembly you can bend it to suit - but the Mini's own one will still be there. If you use an external pump the Mini's own sender is all you've got.

Finally, don't forget you need a fuel filter - use the one from your donor Swift.

Cheers

Im using a bosh pump from an Escort RST, with an inline fuel filter between the tank and pump.
