Mot in an hour, i don't think its ready but its going anyway. Atleast that way i get a fail sheet and can tackle all the problems from there.

I'll post back later with the news.

Sorry guys for the long wait. Its not good news at all, the car could be done but it needs restoration, my brakes need work and he wasn't happy with my front frame. I know of a couple places where i could get the frame and the brakes through the test but thats not the point.

On a less negative note the car feels so quick through the lanes, obviously i was very unhappy after the test so i drove it a bit quick on the way back, i love the gearing and the way it handles but its still too twitchy. It feels like a 100 bhp a series mini,

Not sure what the plan is from here, will let you guys know. I'm thinking i may start from scratch, get a good shell and build a new frame. To be honest
i'm sick of lookin at it. I won't be to emo and just fuff it off but i'm leaving it for now and i'll look into breaking it maybe.

Cheers guys for all your help.

or he's topped himself cuz it failed miserably! Shocked

Thought about it before, but i like my missus and family to much to do it.

Exactly what was wrong with the frame??

A tester cant really do nothing about the frame??

Sounds like your tester was a bit crabby!

Quote me the VT30 and i'll tell you if he being fair or not!

Might need a couple of pics after to back it up!

The tester is a friend of mine but he did have a bad day. He didn't put it down as an mot in the end just a mock test, he reckoned that my tie-bars mounts are out of position compared to standard he called it subframe distortion. The rest of the work could be done quite easily, its just clipping down brake lines and a few patches etc.

If i had time i would take out the frame and put it in the jig again, i have modded the frame a fair amount since it was bolted to the car so it could have distorted.

To check it he hung a plumb bob from the tie-bar mounts and measured diagonally across the frame from the toe board, apparentley there is half inch variation from side-side.

I may get the car looked at somewhere else.

i'll do it! I dont mind as long as its safe !

Thats all I really worry about!

Im a fair tester! If you too harsh no one comes to you!

But dont forget I gotta do a job, And I cant bend the rules (too much  ) it'll cost me my career!

In my opinion the car is safe apart from the brakes, so if i could sort them and the few (very small) welding jobs maybe it would be worth letting someone with more experience have a look, somerset wouldn't be a problem
as it would be a chance to test the car over distance, i could even sort a trailer if needed.

Sorry to hear the bad news fella - although it certainly sounds as if its fixable so I wouldn't rush out and scrap it - just leave it a month then have a look later.

thats not so bad, i think i can justify £15 on fuel in order to save £15 on an MOT :P

I saw one place near me advertising them for £20  must be a cowboy operation!

whats the deal with driving it to and from a test centre ?

dont you have to go to the nearest one ?

if so id be interested in coming back to my home county for an mot ?

little way off yet but the run from crewe would be ace ! 156 miles ?

also are there any things i should watch out for when mounting my custom tank ?
am i right in thinking if its bolted down tight its ok ?? or do i need to have a strap, you know what are the rules if you follow?

cheers rob
