If you can afford KAD bits and pieces surely you can afford some proper high stands???

im going back to handles shortly, the de-handling never let me down, but could be a real PITA when the doors froze and my attempt at fillign the handle holes kept cracking

obv the above is jsut a proof of concept on a spare door, a few modifations were made to allwo the interior handle to still push it without astraining the servo (key to longevity, remember mine were in daily use for the last 3 years!) but you get the idea :)

Here’s an update I went to York last weekend I got one run 1/4 mile with smoke everywhere  and it cut out at the end of the run the engine started again so back to the pits I messed about with the breathers and of I went but before I got to the track it stopped to cut a long story short the fuel pump was goosed it had a bit of aluminium swarf in it.
I tried for a few hours to get a pump with no joy so of home and got one fitted with a pre filter this time back to York at 12pm got half drunk and had a few good runs on Monday best time 14.3.
On Thursday I removed the pistons and ordered new rings and shells which I fitted today after a bit of gas flowing grinding valves and fitting valve stem seals its now running a treat without loads of oil coming out of the breathers

Are you running one looooong shaft and a short one or a setup with the halfshaft?
How is the suspension setup, castor / camber angles etc?
Check the side to side lengths as well as not every garage thats 'sets the suspension' knows what they're doing :x

I ran (from memory) standard tracking, standardish castor, half a degree negative camber all round (might have been more on the front? ), and used 300Lb coilovers, plus a rear antiroll bar that transformed the handling.

Wheels were 6x13 ultralites and BF goodrich tyres
Rich

Allan McD
22-05-2007, 08:46 PM
Both shafts are the same length (halfshaft)
caster 6 deg camber 0 deg for now
side lenghths ??
antiroll bar fitted but I havn't been round a corner yet
New wheels 6x13 with yokos 048s
Yellow spot cones
I recon if the race is streght I could get to the end without crashing now its loads better now.

Hi Allan

I was running a rear anti roll bar on my car with the ATB diff but i found it was making the back end rather twitchy. Changing gear whilst accelerating going around a slight corner caused all manner of twitchyness  I've just removed the anti roll bar for the moment an its transformed the stability.
Might be worth a try by disconnecting the bar and seeing if it makes any difference to your symptons.

Hi Allan.

Have you any idea on what your oversteer issue maybe?

Is it just on lift off that you get it? Or is it Mid-corner or at the exit of the corner?

Its on the way into the corners and in the middle.
Allan

Swiftmini
29-05-2007, 06:56 PM
I'm no expert but things i would check and try would be:

Rear toe, Rear Damper settings, Rear Spring rate, Tyre pressures/temperatures.

If your dampers are turned up to much or the springs are to stiff, they could be causing some of the problem.

Does the huddersfield beam have any toe in, i haven't checked mine.

I'll keep thinking, i'm interested because i had amini with cronic oversteer and i never solved it. It caused me to write the car off :?

Allan McD
29-05-2007, 08:32 PM
Rear toe is around 1/2 deg out on the near side 1 deg in on the off side Ihave just checked (needs attention shouldnt be difficult to fix)
Soft springs and low damping I tryed removing anti roll bar it was better
Tyre pressures I tryed lowering them as the day progresed but no real help
Allan

Swiftmini
29-05-2007, 09:44 PM
I hope that the toe out is the source of the problem, that as you say will be an easy fix.

All i have got is the vizard book and that says that standard is 1/8-inch toe in. And that reducing to 1/16-inch will increase oversteer.

Cheers

How much of a difference to not having it set up? are you using engine management?

M.

Allan McD
31-08-2007, 10:56 AM
I havnt driven it higher than 2nd gear as its not road legal but it feels good at all rev ranges and it picks up instantly every time I put the foot down I hope it stays that way.
I am running Megasquirt.

Did they setup part throttle map as well as everything else?l

Allan McD
31-08-2007, 11:14 AM
They set the ignition and the fuel maps in most rev ranges and throttle positions and just evened the maps out for the ramaining map points.
He seemed to know what he was on but didnt like the megasquirt or the software because he hadnt used it before but with a bit of prodding from me we got there.

Allan McD

The throttle was all the way to the floor a lot of the time but it pulls like a train no need to rev its brains out
The speeds are not as high as it feels with all the trees and armco

Still scares the wossname out of me. :D

I am not surprised with your history
I think I still have 2-3 seconds left in the bag but with near all the corners blind narrow and dangerous it takes a bit to build up.
I have only been up the hill 10 times.

just wanted to ask u another couple of question if u don't mind allan..
when u made your airbox any idea on sizes......
why did u make your airbox that big..??
could it be made thinner and maybe a little smaller.??

Allan McD
06-02-2009, 09:29 PM
I made the box as big as poss with the space available a large air box helps the engine breathe and will produce more power.

Just read the whole thread and looks like a nice build, sounds lovely in the hillclimb video.

Would you recommend the allspeed subframe as im giving the redtop conversion a lot of thought at the moment and planning on using the allspeed frame.

Noticed your not far from where my folks live as they are just down the road from GMC,small world and all that.

Cheers Ross.

It's 2 cars now, the engine is in one and whats left of the shell has a hyabusa lump in the back of it and dont worry his trophy cabinet has grown since that pic was taken, i'm sure he will now update the pic lol!!!

And at least he read the old posts, so the search function must be working!!

Did always wonder what happened to the vaux racer... and the van turbo... and the pick up vtec...
