Has no one thought of modifying the stock frame to be a little narrower, so to reduce the track?? Was just wondering why the vtecs have to be so wide?

Steering rack could become a prob ! I've thought about a similar idea for the rear, ie chopping a rear s/frame from an MG/Rover of some kind with the same PCD instead of using spacers !!!

I have often thought this. I wonderd why the hell Geoff did not offer it as an option on his conversions. Surely you could simply cut the frame down the middle and make it that much slimmer. This is what I wanted to do if I ever did it again. However I think that if this happend it would be harder to fit the engineinto the frame - its fairly tight and I am not sure how much you could do it by before more drastic cutting would be required.

Metro frame is used puley because its easy to modify to fit the engine and the mini. The width cannot be reduced by much because the engine and gearbox fits tight between the lower frame runners.

i am going to need a shorter steering rack for my next project if anyones knows of racks that are smaller than a mini's , or anyone that has managed to shorten a std one.
