View Full Version : Newbie Qestion - Whats this engine?
Hi all,
At the moment I'm tied to which engine I want to get..
Vauxhall - a lot of them around, and cheaper
Honda - Expensive, no so common, but a better engine..
Anyway I've got a chance to buy a Honda Engine from a Del Sol, for £500 with all the bits. Now I've found out via this forum that this should be a B16A3/4 engine, is this ok to use?
When I asked the bloke selling for details of the engine number he gave me this...
"the engine type is eh6/16 the engine code is d16z6-3702438"
Does this mean anything to anybody? :?
Many thanks... :D

I think that that is probably a singal over head cam engine - which does not produce the same sort of power that you want (160 bhp). You want to try and find a B16A engine.

Its a SOHC vtec engine, cira 130bhp. It aint a B16 engine.
There is a B16 on ebay at the moment.
Also, I know of a lad in Southampton that will be breaking a car soon if he gets it back from the insurnace company. It got rear ended at a fairly low speed on the weekend, yours truely present...
I have suggested that he get on here and try to sell the whole front end as one part, but the job lot car wont be available as he will be breaking it himself.
Depending on which management you plan to use and subsequent tuning, stay away fro mthe B16A3/4 and look for a B16A, B16A1 or B16A2 engines. Assuming Honda management these are a better bet.
If you get hold of a B16A2 engine and dont plan on using the dizzy or ECU, let me know I'd be interested in buying those parts from you :D
Thanks for your advice, I'll think I'll stay clear... and wait for a B16A1 to come up, although there is one on ebay at the moment, just not too sure on its condition... :?

Nothing wrong with the D16Z6 in a Mini, although it's 'only' 130hp, it sure makes the Mini fly! It's a little smaller than the B series and can be fit under a roundnose without extending the front end. They are also cheaper to buy and more plentiful, at least over here. See my site for details. But if you are after the 160hp plus, look for the other engines as suggested above.

 Here in Canada, you can't walk in to a breakers yard with out tripping over a Honda Lump! Maybe I should start shipping over used B16As and B18 from Acura Integras for you guys. I'm sure I can track down a lightly used B series engines for no more then $500 Canadian, and that only 200 pounds!

Toronto must obviously have a lot of them kicking around in the wreckers. In the west you still pay big bucks for them and in the pick-a-part lots they only have stuff up to 1990 if you're lucky.
Once I get my current system finalized a B shouldn't be that big of a stretch to put in. I may need your help then if they are that cheap and easy to find. JS

np Strudel, I'm friends with quite a large community of Honda enthusiests as well, and those guys are always swapping out there factory USDM Motors for JDM ones. So they go fairly cheap.
