Honda driveshafts

Hi,

On my honda driveshafts there is a big bit off rubber that goes round the shaft itself. Does anyone know what this is and what it does? Also do i need to fit them to my new shafts?

The rubber is a vibration damper. I havent fitted mine and it seems OK.
