Just been having a look - if I actually had the engine in the car I'd be very tempted ! Need to spend my money on just getting the thing up and running at the mo though !!!

Chrome 8) If it aint a b16b then i find the type R kind cheesy(No offence guys :D )
If you want a chrome one why not buy some wet & dry and autosolve and polish the one you have......got to cost less than £95 :D
hides my 'cheesey' sohc type r cover sheepishly
i thought it looked cool...

 It's all good, I'm just a kinda purist
I don't see why not if you have Type R cams etc, but then again, you wont in a SOHC
How do you find the SOHC? My mate has a 1.5lsi(Mild tune) and a EG VTi, and the Lsi could beat it(Had both of them reaced on the Quarter against each other  )
we used to run a sohc crx years ago in the early days of the crx challenge, we were only allowed to blueprint the engine but we still got 148bhp!
My new one is being built by the same guy (Oz at OAP) we are using acralite pistons,dc sports 4-2-1 header, eagle rods, an ally flywheel, Stuart at Vmax is doing the head and Piper are making me a cam.
We are also gonna run it on twin 45s (maniflow are doing a tubular stainless inlet) with a modified dizzy set up. (i'm a technophobe)
Oz says a coservative estimated horsepower will be 160..then theres always the option of a turbo!
and as the Honda type Rs are hand finished I thought the cam cover would be appropriate!
Mind you I've also toyed with the idea of painting the whole engine BMC engine green!

 I like the bmc green idea
Why are you using all the mini specialists to do the work? I'm intrested to learn more about the CRX challenge stuff, that series was 8) They dominated a hatch series, then got there own if my info is correct :?
A turbo on 45's :? do yo men run her on 45's then get an I/M and go to turbo :?:
I used to work at Avonbar along with Oz (OAP) and Stuart Gurr (Vmax) and Ian the boss used to drive in the crx challenge, so although the guys are Mini specialists, they know the engine! Besides Oz is the best engine builder I know! He's just done a 1600 16v vaux for grass tracking thats got 222bhp on carbs!
I got a pair of 45s off an esprit turbo (dont ask) so they are the sealed type and can be turbo'ed easily..well as easy as fabricating all the pipe work!
But to be honest I think 160 bhp will be enough...I've driven a Group A metro turbo engined mini with 260 bhp and that was scary as feck!!
but and its a big but...maybe we will look at the extreme mighty mini series if its still going next season...and maybe a b18c
and I think the BMC green is a goer.... after all its going in a 67 MK2 cooper!!

i realy like the bmc green colour idea ,i was going to do mine but end up getting my cam cover chromed instead ,could you explain what you mean by blueprinting ,ive heard it many times but never knew what it meant
basically 'blueprinting' means getting all the components as near to factory tolerences as possible i.e. balance all your rods, pistons etc to the lightest you can find!, get a few cams and chose the one with the best lift/overlap etc you'd be surprised how much they can vary. Make sure all the machining is done to a very high standard etc.
Most racing regs are very srtict, so you need to know exactly what you can and can't do...I know of one guy who spent a day at the Rover factory mesuring MG Metro cams until he found a few that had better lift than the rest...only to find out the regs had a maximum permissable valve lift!!

cheers for that ,they did that sort of thing in the 60s with the works coopers where they had vans full of spares just so that they could as you said match the parts for tolerences etc
