I recently bought a 1998 suzuki baleno from a bloke at work, Im very impressed with it. It Revs great and goes like stink (enough for me anyhow !!) Has anbody stuck the engine from one of these in a mini ?Or is it the same as a swift ? Look forward to your replies.

Hi,

They are 1.6 16v with single cam.
It also revs less that G13B 16v DOHC engine.
Also, it has a bit less power but it is very cheap to buy!
I don't think there are many after market parts to mod with.

I know one guy who wants to fit Baleno head to G13B engine to make shorter engine to fit into minis.

Cheers

thanks Atchi, listen youll have to stick with me because i am a complete Modding virgin !!! you say you know a bloke who wants to fit a baleno head ? does this mean the baleno engine is too big as it is ? I know they are cheap ! which helps my pocket. Im less than endeared to the mg metro lump in my pick-up and totaly underwelmed by my sons year 2000 mpi and their fabulous exploding diffs !!! Do the pins come out of all of them at 35,000 miles ?? ( I know of 3 !!! others beside my sons) There has to be another way ?? I dont want to do a million miles an hour, i just want a good RELIABLE fun mini to drive. any and all comments and suggestions gladly recieved.

well reliablitliy was the main reason i went for a hybrid conversion and never looking back. it may be worth considerign the 1.6 8v vaux engien as this is a very tried and tested route for a relaible 100bhp roundnose mini.

Hi,

Baleno is 1.6 and it is slightly taller.
If you going to build mini with reliable engine, may as well stay at cheaper road tax bracket as well as compact.

Like Evolution says Vauxhall will be cheaper and easier than one off subframe....then again, you can buy from Matt!

Mk1 Swift has cross pin diff and gearbox is good for 270bhp from 1300 supercharged engine.
Mk2 gearbox is like mini single pin and not so strong but it all depend on how you treat it.
I used to live in Gloucester and guy live next street down had 1/4 million miles with same engine and gearbox. So it must be OK.

You can buy MOT failure Gti for £200-400 as a whole car.
Did you get everything you need?
You will need ECU, wiring, driveshaft, speedo and on and on.

I haven't finished mine yet due to family commitments and house move....
Then I have to buy house then do it up then my mini... may be I can start to work on my mini, 2 years time or so....

If you go with mk2 Gti, you will have 1298 cc 16v with 105bhp std which does 45-50mpg.
I'm sure insurance will be cheap enough for you.

Cheers
