Has any one ever used a Motec ECU in the past ? I was looking on their site and it seems you can get a setup which uses all the original Honda sensors instead of having to add a toothed wheel to the crank shaft ? No idea how much they cost, but I reckon its gotta be worth a closer look :) !
Its also keeps things like the knock sensor which DTA doesn't, plus a few other bits and pieces which could come in handy one day !

I'd be fine soldering it all together - but I think that's about as far as I'd get !!! Would it cope with the vtec aspect of things ok ?? Might have to have a look out of interest, but I'm afraid its not likely Matt !!!
I'm sure you must be on commission... !!!

there is someone getting it to work on a honda at the moment , have not been following it , but there is options to switch relays etc at certain revs which is all the VTEC needs ,

check out http://www.mini-ms.com

it is a megasquirt , but is smaller and has relay's built onto it , very nice package , a few people have tried it, i will next time.

how much is MOTEC , is it worth investing a little money into megasquirt ,?? :) and you can also sell it after wards if you don't want it.

go on ... take a look .... www.megasqurt.info

(who will convince someone)

Not sure if these will work on your engine, but I dont see why not:

Dad has one running on his K series. I think £650 ish.
The guys there are very helpful. One of the main men is Dave Walker from CCC mag

My typing is always really bad - I have to re-read everything but sometimes forget !!!
I had a look at Emerald too - went on a 4 hour mission yesterday reading various different sites so I think I need to to start comparing them all in detail! Emerald definately seem the cheapest of the commercial ECU's I've found so far, and the fact Dave Walker is involved makes it quite appealing - I bought his book on Engine Management after a recommendation and it was well worth the money !
Got "part" of the Honda loom - but not all, its one of those situations where some large wire cutters were used in the delicate removal process of the engine !

Blimey!

MegaSquirt rocks! Look at all the useful bits of kit (read as - toys) you can get to go along with it ! The digital dash, MegaView, looks cool :D If not simply for the useful info it can provide, but also for the geek factor! MegaSquirt has also given me a reason to buy a laptop...

Heh, why sepnd 800 quid on an ECU system when you could make your own? Well thats if you can make your own :?

Cheers Matt for the MegaSquirt link - I had it in my favourites a while ago but have since done a format and re-install. Roughly how much did all the parts come to, to complete the board. Also guessing Maplins would be a great shop to visit for the parts?

I was wondering about parts too as they recommend getting them all from digi-key. There is a link to a digikey uk site (that starts something like www.16vmi.... - any comments Matt ?!!) but still says you have to get the PCB from the US.
There's still the one big appeal of the Motec that it can use all the honda sensors, but the saving of a few sensors and figuring out how to do the crank sensor on an alloy crank pulley doesn't out-weigh the extra £700+ over the DTA, or extra £900+ over the GEMS !!!
Time for some serious reading abnd studying methinks !!!

I have been looking at the mega squirt aswell. Not sure if you guys need it, but have you seen the mega squirtnspark? Uses same hardware, but also looks after ignition. No real webpage but they have a yahoo group.
There is talk though of a new peice of kit, Ultra mega squirt, that will have both injsction and ignition, only done better, with newer bits of kit.

I'm still a HUGE Fan of Standard Honda ECU and get it Uni chipped, Kev, Dastek in dalgety bay in glenrothes do them, EVERY modified honda I know up here runs one

I'll put up a link, www.dastek.co.uk 0845 345 4045

Apparently one ofthe Tecnicions (Geoff) worked on the mapping/ dignostics side for The Toyota Celica WRC Team, and he knows his stuff, the system is £550 and is re programmeable as you modify the engine, it has add on features like launch controll, V tec engagement ETC ETC ETC

any club member who wants to try a megasquirt I am more than happy to come over with my ECU and try and get your engine running.

Another benifit of MegaSquirt is that your make it / you brake it / you can fix it !

Also i don't know of any other ECU with 24/7 365 days support

Unfortunately I dont have a Honda ECU to get chipped  ! You always find out the better, or alternative, ways when its too late !!!
Think I'll go an look for more info on that Ultra Mega Squirt ! Could be the way forward !

Another point on the dastek side, There is no opening of your ecu, farting about with it etc, the Unichip plugs int the honda wiering loom and into your ECU, it is a computer in its own right, and if removed from the car, the honda ECU will not be damaged at all, it will run the car as the factory settings are.

If I was on a budget, I'd probably try the likes of the megasquirt, but im not, and I trust myself mechanically, but when it comes to eletrics, I'll leave that to the experts

The DTA looks even less appealing now I have been researching ecu's and tuning.
