I am thinking of upgrading the pickup to a latter type 1.4 or 1.6 K series, the one without the distributor and using the MEMS 3 ecu. However after
trawling through the Rover W S manual I notice that there are extra
inputs to the ecu that I might have a problem with!! eg
1) a 2nd lamba sensor mounted downstream of the cat (I don't have a
cat)
2}"rough road detection" via a signal from the ABS circuit, it
disables misfire detection
3) fuel tank senser, again tied into misfire detection.

Any idea if I need these extra sensors or does the engine run OK
without them and just create a fault file in the memory?
Thanks Richard

Just thought I would continue this thread.
We got a mems 3 engine to go in the pickup after being told not to worry about the extra sensors mentioned earlier.

Got a good price to I think, £615 for engine, box and all electric’s we need and some we don’t! The car was an 03 reg rover 25, not sure on mileage but assured less then 14000, dam digital speedo's (Although we did take the whole instrument pod to play with at a later stage!)
We had to pull it out ourselves but did not take long as a lot of other bits had already been removed.

One point tho, there are a lot of wires! Far more then on the old system.
The new style cam cover looks good now the engines sitting in place tho.

Hopefully she will be alive in the next couple of nights.

This is from a guy who is studying to be an electrical engineer!! - get out in the garage and get splicing Mike. :D
